To me the most obvious scenario is to franchise it, like CSI or Law and Order.

Is it Torchwood 4 they can't find? Hey, have it turn up in the States, with Captain John at the helm as the antihero- perhaps akin to Avon in Blake's 7.

As for the UK, my guess is it was stripped back down to bare bones so they can have a clean reboot if necessary. They have no need to return with any of the team (other than fan and audience reception), and can start fresh be it in Cardiff or elsewhere.

If America wants it- really wants it rather than think it's quaint-- then they may not want it to be so, well, Welsh. Don't get me wrong, I love it. Much better than London based in fact, but an international audience who think we're all either Dick Van Dyke or Kelly LeBrock fake English, it may be a barrier.

OT: John Barrowman is "top 15" in the singles chart this week with some track off an old album due to a Chris Moyles campaign.

I've always thought Moyles was evil.

I think it says a lot about how much they wanted to get shot of it that months on from a hugely successful series, it's still not confirmed for more! It should have been recomissioned before the last series had even finished! Madness!

"We've got great ideas for the show. I think there's a further lease on life for many years to come, but certainly for a [fourth season]."
NOW they've got great ideas! They never had great ideas before Children of Earth! Typical!

agreed, and unless they are going to bring back Jack, then IMO it would be a very bad idea to even try to make a 4th series.

It's almost like it's a show that's "slipped through the cracks" - with the obvious reshuffle at Cardiff, and the fact that its not had a consistent home (ie, it was on BBC Three, then BBC Two, then BBC One) maybe it just doesn't have a driving force pushing to get it renewed. It would be a huge shame if it just faded away.

John Barrowman was a guest today on Steve Wright in the Afternoon on BBC Radio 2. During the interview he confirmed that Torchwood will be back for 13 episodes.

But will he be in it?

Or will it be a Torchwood set on another planet? Who knows?

I don't think it'll be set on another planet.

Unless someone at the BBC said "We love this show but it's just too realistic and not expensive enough to make".

Hmm...maybe the ship that Jack teleported to underwent a lethal radiation leak, leaving Jack as the only survivor, along with a hologram of Gwen and a creature that mutated from a pterodactyl in the hold?

Maybe "Mr Jooooooohhhhhhhhn BARROWMAN!" just wants to make a new series and did that announcement to force the BBC's hand.

The new Sky magazine mentions Children of Earth getting a repeat, and also that a fourth series is underway. Does that count as official I wonder?

I can never remember about Doctor Who what's gossip, fan speculation, solid fact, and totally made up.

Interesting to read in the new Writer's Tale book that RTD said he would be "running for the hills" at the thought of Torchwood series four...

Chris Chibnall is off to America to pen a new series about Camelot. So it looks like he's not hanging around waiting for Series 4 of Torchwood.

Will it be more Come-a-lot than Camelot?

It's not ready to go to Fox:

BBC Worldwide Productions and the FOX Broadcasting Company have mutually agreed not to progress together with a 13-episode serialized 'Torchwood' format. We are currently in discussion with several interested networks.

I never knew they were even trying to get US co-funding!

So the BBC don't WANT to fund a successful, innovative British drama series themselves?
