The jacket looks a bit short on the sleeves there.

And the black trousers are clearly a homage to Jon Pertwee.

The fact he's got hair is clearly a homage to Barbara Benedetti.

I didn't like it this morning but it's already grown on me.

There's been surprisingly few negative comments I think. When I first saw it it struck me as quite harsh design-wise (not ramshackle or flexible, almost as "uniform" as the much mocked eighties "costumes"), but not many people have said they don't like it.

Well, it's just that I've read lots of negative comments elsewhere. The PS gang have taste

There's a pic - long shot of MS walking away and it reminded me as soon as I saw it of the second Doctor for some reason.

The costume seems a bit Indiana Jones (professorship rather than adventurer, obviously!)

Well, I suppose I'll get used to it in time.

I thought it looked just a little... Sylvester McCoyish. I'm waiting to see Smitty with the umbrella.

It needs a big coat or scarf or cape - something that flaps about when you're running around heroically.

Fans fondly remember Jon Pertwee's bow tie
I'm sure he only wore one for "The Three Doctors", maybe a couple of stories at most!

But is it fondly? I remember he wore it on the front of the 73 (or was it 74?) annual. But hardly a major influence.

I remember Tom Baker's big wooly muffler more fondly.

I like the way the style gurus have pointed out elements of the costume with little arrows ...

I would never have recognised which bit was the shirt otherwise!

What a great photo. Doctor and TARDIS - all new!

the TARDIS looks very similar to the version used in the Peter Cushing movies..

Let's face it of late you kind of feel the Doctor shops at Oxfam!

But, with the exception of the Third Doctor, isn't that exactly where he would shop for clothes, just to be different?

How does a Timelord shop for clothes though? I mean you seem to have to accommodate for all kinds, as your regeneration could take you in so many different directions - taller, thinner, whatever.

Actually how does he pay for it all? Does he turn up to jumble sales and say "I'm taking the lot".

Wouldn't it be funny if he was actually Oxfam's biggest shoplifter. It probably also means the Doctor has that strange musty smell of lilly of the valley and urine you get from Oxfam clothes!
