    Default The Banner thread

As an 80s fanboy, I just thought I'd register my approval at the marvellous new banner, and also the general 'starfield' revamp to the forum. Good work, Pip!!

The pattern isn't seamless though, you can tell where one bit ends and the other begins, damn my monitor... I'll have to revisit that...

Ta for the nice comments, I'm glad you all appreciate my hard work

I just like to say that the stars behind where it says 'Planet Skaro' are from the Tom Baker title sequence, whereas the ones behind the pictures in Andrew Curnow's signature are from the Davison sequence!!!

I know, it's sad, but you would have been disappointed if I hadn't said it!!!
If you think this is sad you should have seen the post I did about Mr Curmow's signiture pictutes on the old ezboard site!!!!!

I really should get out more!!!

    Oh yeah.....excellent banner Pip!!!

I'd be even more impressed if you could tell me which Tom Baker story I took the screencap from

It's where I'd have got the starfield from if I were you. Best quality version released so far of course

I have a vague memory of having asked this back on the old PS, but I can't remember the answer, so... How can you tell the difference between the Baker & Davison starfields, Andrew/Ian? I'm well-impressed that you can, but I just wonder how? Or are they in fact totally different but I've just always been too wrapped up in myself to notice?

I predict you will get a reply starting with "Warning - technical explanation ahead!"......

Is it not the case that the S18 starfield is a brighter colour - eg the red, yellow and blue bits as seen in Pip's striking banner?

I fear we're heading towards an embarassing "It's just you who can't tell the difference, Curnow" scenario...

Ahh, well.........the best thing would be for someone to dig out my old ezboard post (if only I could remember what thread it was in)!!!

Very simply, the first thing is, as I think Jonno has said, is the colours, especially on the initial burst of stars.
Tom Baker sequence - the large stars are kind of yellow/gold...ish
    Davison - blue/white...ish
Colin Baker - multicoloured (well, there's a red one in there anyway)!!!

Also, all the sequences are very different from each other (and I don't just mean the Doctor's face). It's not simply a case of putting the new face on the same starfield each time. Even though the first two sequences are similar in that they don't have all the extra colours and 'floaty bits' of the Colin sequence, they are quite different from each other.

There now, that wasn't too bad was it?

Well, maybe I should have just said "different", rather than "very different", your average viewer is not going to have noticed any of the differences - it's just sad anorak types like me that spot these things!
Ant Cox and my brothers were always convinced that I knew exactly how many stars there are on all the sequences!!! - It's utter nonsense, of course!!

That conviction still stands as far as I'm concerned!
