I'm so glad that they've come clean with this. Saves all that guessing and secret-keeping.
On the plus side, I suppose it gives them a lot more reference for any attempt at manual recolourisation. Should they be planning to do that. Or be able to afford it, which they probably won't be.Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

Worst case, could they not release it as a black and white hybrid like the "Ambassadors of Death" video?
It's not ideal but it would be better than a smack in the face by a wet mackrel.

There are some more pictures from the Colour Recovered copy of Mind of Evil here: http://colourrecovery.wikispaces.com...grammes?ref=nf
It's looking good isn't it? Hopefully that means there's been a positive result in its recovery...

I think I'm right in saying that the RT have reported episode 1 doesn't have the necessary, erm, magic dots that allow this process to work. Whether that means it would have to be recoloured by hand or what, I don't know.
That aside, I agree with you both - can't vouch for the whole episodes, but those shots on the website look very good. OK, it's never going to be as perfect as having the original VT, but it's a remarkable achievement that they look as good as they do there. Here's hoping something similar can be done with the other troublesome Pertwee, The Ambassadors
OF DEATH

Those screen grabs look rather good!
I wonder if the budget will stratch to combining this with computer colourised versions, as with Plant of the Daleks #3?
I suppose Episode 1 of MOE will have to be colourised solely that way anyway...

It isn't perhaps as optimistic as we hoped according to Steve Roberts over on GB:
"If anything, part two is one of the better episodes, it's parts 5 and 6 that look really bad. Each episode has its own unique look - and that's one of our most difficult problems, trying to work out WHY and how to tackle it. Some episodes have very flickery saturation, others have fairly stable saturation, but terrible cross-colour type artefacts. At least one only has colour in highly saturated areas and drops to monochrome below a certain threshold - so Delgado's face has colour, whereas Pertwee's is almost monochrome. There's a scene in part three which is almost perfect, then there are scenes in other episodes where almost every colour is wrong at some point.
AYBS was a dream in comparison. A pretty good decode straight away - and yet it still took Peter Crocker hundreds of man-hours of retouching to get the colour as stable as it is. Any episode of MoE is far less stable than AYBS and it's going to take thousands of man-hours of hard graft to bring it up to an acceptable standard."

Has that gone down well with Mr Levine, I know he's been... campaigning for a colour release recently, in his own inimitable style!

Frequently. Now all we need to do is to tell him he's morally obliged to listen to people occasionally.
