    Default Magnus Magnusson has died

Just seen on the news that original Mastermind presenter Magnus Magnusson has died. Originator of the catchphrase "I've started so I'll finish" he leaves behind a legacy of television programmes, books, translated Icelandic literature and of course, Mastermind, which he presented from the early 70s.

    Si xx

I've just got my handcuffs and my truncheon and that's enough.

As a great follower of the original Mastermind, this news, which I've only just seen, has saddened me.

    RIP Magnus.

    It saddens me, too.
'Mastermind' used to be a family favourite in our house, & he remained as familiar to me as many an actor or comedian who starred in shows that i watched.
    RIP Magnus.

How bizarre - just this evening Zel was watching a bit of an old "Audience With Peter Ustinov" on ITV3, and amongst the audience was Magnus Magnusson, and I found myself wondering how he was...

He's another of those 'always around' faces of 70s TV, and it's sad to hear that he's gone.

RIP to Magnus Magnusson - the noblest Mastermind host of them all!

And another small part of my childhood has gone. The problem with the show was that to this day it reminds me of that rotten Sunday night feeling where the lovely weekend was almost over, and you had to go to bed early to start another long week at school.

Other programmes in that category include Poldark, The Onedin Line and One Man and His Dog!

I dashed on here to start this thread so I could call it "He started... now he's finished".

    RIP.

He seemed such a nice gentleman as well.
I must admit, just when I think I'm king, I just begin!

I'm sorry to hear Magnus Magnusson is no more.

Mastermind was never a great favourite of mine...I loved the parodies of it more than the programme itself of which there were many I recall back in the 70s.

Along with Ask the Family and University Challenge (Bamber version) I thought it was all a bit serious and dull. Quiz shows are so much more relaxed I think these days.

As for MM I thought he did a good job as quizmaster even though it wasn't my bag.

He's one of those perpetual people you think will always be around - even though they're not in the public eye.

    Very sad news
Your people? Your people??? They are MY people now!
