Default Phil Collins Threatens Return to Music

    Pip will be pleased:

Phil Collins has announced a new Motown covers record and four upcoming US shows.

According to HitFix, the singer will release his first studio album in eight years, titled Going Back, this September.

The LP will feature Collins covering hits by Stevie Wonder, Martha and the Vandellas, The Four Tops and other Motown acts.

"My idea, though, was not to bring anything 'new' to these already great records, but to try to recreate the sounds and feelings that I had when I first heard them," Collins said.

He added: "My intention was to make an 'old' record, not a 'new' record."

Collins will perform four shows at New York's Roseland Ballroom to promote the album. The concerts will take place from June 22 to June 25.
    Don't mention the "farewell" tour!

Bet it won't be as good as Peter Gabriel's cover versions album. But it will probably sell better.
Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

Cover albums are funny arn't they? I've yet to find a really good one. Inevitably it's an uphill climb because you love the originals. And if you don't, you're unlikely to warm to the song when sung by someone else.

This album has been in the pipeline for about a year or so now. Anyone familiar with Phil Collins knows he is a big fan of Motown, what with his Number 1 version of You Can't Hurry Love in 1982 and later working with Motown legends such as Lamont Dozier and The Four Tops on Two Hearts and Loco In Acapulco - this is a lifelong ambition for him, I think he's doing it now because of problems with his physical health. It's quite sad actually - for years his vertebrae has been crushing the spinal cord because of his drumming position, so now he can't even grip sticks and had to resort to having them taped to his hands.

    Anyway, the tracklist is:

    1. Girl (Why You Wanna Make Me Blue)
    2. Uptight (Everything’s Alright)
    3. Blame It On The Sun
    4. Never Dreamed You’d Leave In Summer
    5. Heat Wave
    6. In My Lonely Room
    7. Jimmy Mack
    8. Standing In The Shadows Of Love
    9. Something About You
    10. Loving You Is Sweeter Than Ever
    11. Papa Was a Rolling Stone
    12. Some Of Your Loving
    13. Talking About My Baby
    14. Do I Love You?
    15. Going To a Go-Go
    16. Love Is Here
    17. Take Me In Your Arms (Rock Me a Little While)
    18. Going Back

    Don't mention the "farewell" tour!
The "First Final Farewell Tour" was obviously a nod to other artists (such as Cher, Kiss, The Eagles etc) who perform multiple goodbye tours - Collins has always said he would do small showcases and live performances now and then if he felt like it. But it was his final solo world tour, he won't do another.

But will his "Going Back" be as good as the Diana Ross version?

He's had a lot of botox and hair transplants on that album cover.

Phil can feel it coming in the air tonight. He's not throwing it all away over the silver rainbow and he's not as dead as a dodo. He can't dance, but Jesus he knows him and he knows he's right, that's all. He might be back in the Stu-stu-studio to put another record on!
