    Default Andrew's Random Pictures!

This is a thread for some random photographs that have recently turned up at my Mum’s house.
I’ll post a pic or two at a time (so I can drag this thread on for as long as possible).

The majority of the photos were taken in the early 90’s and most of them have some kind of connection to Doctor Who. They feature Ant Cox and myself plus a few minor celebs from Doctor Who.
There will also be a few ‘never seen before’ stills from the making of The Tamaras Crisis – typically these pictures turned up just after Ant Cox had finished producing his documentary on the making of the story!!! (as I often say - if you don't know what I'm on about then consider yourself lucky)!!!

Anyway, I’ll see how this thread goes…..

First up it’s a Police Box – interestingly with the white window frames and St John’s ambulance badge – kind of old fashioned and bang up to date at the same time!!!
I believe this shot was taken at one of 3 PanoptiCon conventions held in the Hotel Leofric (in Coventry). They held a PanoptiCon there in 1990, 1991 & 1992; Ant and myself went to all 3 of them (with my brothers also coming along for the 1992 one) – I’ve a feeling this shot was taken in 1992. The following year was my favourite PanotiCon, which was held in the Novotel in Hammersmith.

That's a rather nice Police Box, isn't it?

Whilst watching the most recent episode last night, I was struck by how bloody fantastic the TARDIS looks in this new series, and is indeed very similar to that one, albeit with squarer windows.

Of course, there are some more pictures to come with a far better looking TARDIS...

It looks like the people at the bottom of the shot are rivetted by a talk... while Andrew is busy taking photos of the TARDIS Quite right too!
Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

Next, a picture each of Ant and I, taken at some point between 1990 and 1992 (I think it was 1991).
Look how thin I am and see Ant's hair!!!
I bet I felt important with my PanoptiCon name badge on!!!!

Hands in pockets, boy! Is that where the remote control for K-9 is kept?

And is that a mock-up of the console on the stage there?

It looks like one of the stands they used on BSB's Doctor Who Weekend in 1990.

That particular 7th Doctor impersonator was a regular at those Coventry conventions (well I think it was him anyway). The first year that Ant and I attended the PanoptiCon we went by train and he was on the same train as us.....in full costume..............we didn't speak to him!!!!!

It is a mock-up of the console (kind of) - it was before 1993 when they started using the actual "don't touch the buttons" console. I suspect that this was indeed the same console/desk thingy that was used for the BSB's Who weekend - as Si says, it looks very similar. I think therefore that this dates the picture to either be from 1990 or 1991 as by 1992 (the last PanoptiCon at the Hotel Leofric) the chairs and desks for the interviewers and guests had been replaced by comfortable leather sofas - I'll always remember Philip Madoc lounging on one of those!

    OK,

Next it's the 'Cafe Munchen' shots - to be honest I took loads of photos at this place (which if anyone is interested was behind the old 'Forbidden Planet' shop located on New Oxford Street - basically a stone's throw from 'Centre point').

I'm fairly certain other members of this forum attended some of the signings that they held there.
I'm only going to post a few shots from these events, so to begin with a treat for lovers of the incidental music during the 6th and 7th Doctor's era........it's Keff, Mark and Dominic - my how Dominic has changed since then!!!
Mark Ayres, on the hand, doesn't look that much different!!!

    Who are those children?

Mark Ayres looks very squashed there! The infamous Cafe Munchen signing - it was huge. I was there, with my cousin Phillip. I have no memory of meeting anyone famous, only standing in the queue and getting a copy of the Variations On A Theme LP.

They'd all left by the time I got there from the very end of the queue.

Here are a few as yet unseen snaps from the recording of The Tamaras Crisis (1990). When Ant Cox was making the documentary for our recent re-edit of the story he was looking for interesting photos taken throughout the recording. He ended up using the few that we could find. Typically as soon as it was all finished this lot turned up!!!!!!

Funny that the photo of the TARDIS all by itself is far bigger than all the rest...
