    That's a tautology, isn't it?

I'm very happy to pay for this set, not least for the proper documentaries on series 1 and 2.

    Press release:

Red Dwarf - The Bodysnatcher Collection

Originally inspired by the Star Wars classic re-releases, this collection features the 1997 series re-mastered editions of Series I to III with enhanced sound, picture and special effects. A host of brand new extras also feature – writer, director and crew commentaries, rare unseen footage, and in-depth episode documentaries featuring over 20 members of cast and crew, including (for the first time on a Dwarf DVD) exclusive contributions from rarely-seen Red Dwarf co-creator Rob Grant.

But the hidden gem in this collection is the never-seen-before Red Dwarf I episode “Bodysnatcher”. This script is something of a time-travel project, intended to be filmed in 1987 the script was finally completed in 2007, uniting stellar writing duo Rob Grant and Doug Naylor for the first time in 14 years. This episode is in the form of storyboards with a unique vocal performance by Chris Barrie. Recorded exclusively for the DVD with atmospheric sound and music, Chris perfectly portrays an entire cast of characters, creating an episode that the writers consider “one of the best of all the early series”.

This out–of-this-world DVD is packed with the following extras:

6 episode commentaries, four bonus commentaries, promo and effects reels, easter eggs and the ‘What’s Different?’ text track – detailing the remastering changes…and occasionally making fun of them.

    • ‘The Beginning’ – Original Series I Documentary (70 mins)
    • ‘It’s Cold Outside – Original Series II Documentary (70 mins)
    • ‘Red-Dwarf’ – Original Remastering Documentary (21 mins)
    • ‘The End: The Original Assembly’ – The first episode of the series...before two-thirds were re-shot. Includes Grant/Naylor commentary
    • ‘Bodysnatcher’ – The Lost Episode. Includes Grant/Naylor commentary and uncut ‘audio edition’
    • Deleted Scenes – The cast freezing to death, and Kryten’s first day at work
    • Lost Script Extracts – storyboard sequences voiced by Chris Barrie, with optional Grant/Naylor commentary
    • Rob and Doug Interview – Alan Titchmarsh in “The Most Embarrassing Interview In The Universe Ever” with hilarious Grant/Naylor commentary
    • Tongue Tied Audio Archive
    • Mobisode – an exclusive look at a new, animated Red Dwarf
    • Galleries – Rare shots from behind-the-scenes

    Cover...

The spine's a little bigger to accommodate the wider plastic DVD case we'll be using this time around, that's all. Oh, and should you like such things - and they do add a little touch of class - there will also be a cardboard slipcase.

    Plus there's another new release...

    Red Dwarf: Just The Smegs

This special DVD release will include The Smeg Ups (introduced by Kryten) and The Smeg Outs (introduced by Kryten, with interference by Lister). Both 50-minute outtake specials were bestsellers on VHS - and now you can get them together on one DVD.

But it doesn't stop there. Because we know what you're like - you crazy completists, you - we're also including the home video versions of the Series VII and Series VIII Smeg Ups. (As opposed to the DVD versions, which featured their own special opening titles.)

And if that weren't enough, the package will be rounded off with The Smeg Ups: Broadcast Edition. This half-hour version was created for Red Dwarf Night in 1998 and featured Kryten, Lister and Rimmer introducing outtakes from the first seven series. (Not to mention a clever introduction showing Lister falling off his cradle as he paints the ship...)

Best of all, two-and-a-half-hours of outtake hilarity will only cost you £15.99 RRP! How could footage of a cast getting things wrong and falling over get any more tempting?

Red Dwarf: Just the Smegs will be released on November 5th.

Is that how they describe the loyal fans who buy everything released under the Red Dwarf label?*

*Sorry, I've been reading a lot of DWB (vitriolic 90's Who magazine) lately.

    Red Dwarf: Just The Smegs
I literally don't believe it. Scraping the barrel? No, the barrel's been worn away and their scraping the floor.

If (if!) someone out there even considered releasing this because they thought fans might get it for completism, and I think that's likely, then that's disgusting.

I won't bother to get this - I'd rather save up for the next release Red Dwarf: Just the End Credits.

It went down to £14.99 at one point (that's when I swooped).

Shall I bring it with me for a viewing?

I bought it cheap about six months ago and still haven't opened it.

Also spotted it for £40 in Zavvi yesterday.
