Done all the above. Turned firewall off and back on. I'm perhaps not getting the error quite so often but it's still there. Why just PS though? And nobody else seems to be having a problem... I'm flummoxed!

Forgot to say: Time out message takes approx 20 seconds before it appears.

    This is bizarre.

A 20 second timeout that makes the browsers think the server isn't responding.

Do you have anything weird in your Hosts file - c:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts - ?
And have you scanned for viruses and malware and made sure your PC is clean?

I wouldn't know, to be honest. It looks like this:

Well I use AVG Internet Security 2014, daily. Nothing detected.
But why would a virus just affect PS and nowhere else?

    It's a puzzle.

When you "Turned firewall off and back on" - did you try PS with the firewall off?
and did it timeout just as much?

Yes and yes. Didn't make any difference. It's seems slightly better since you fiddled with things, but it has to be an issue with my PC otherwise other people would be affected. Just weird that everywhere else is ok.
Oh well... time for bed again.

3 'normal' posts in a row this morning before it happened again. It's an improvement!

EDIT: This posted straight away too. But this edit took 11 goes. (so far)

Yeah, there was an error, but Phil fixed it from a Chinese restaurant. He's clever like that.

I've just got my handcuffs and my truncheon and that's enough.

    Thanks guys :-)

I'll look into the logs and see what went wrong. There should be a way of fixing this automatically.

Glued together with bits of egg foo yong and fried rice! Not very technical, but it seems to work...

Although I fixed it before the food came - so I was running on beer at the time

    Hi Guys,

The server was down from 17:06 to 17:16 this afternoon.

It was unexpected and I'm looking into why this happened.
I've asked the hosting company if they are aware of anything, although it might be Monday before I get a response.

The hosting provider is having issues, as reported pubicly in http://forum.bytemark.co.uk/t/bigv-head-outage/2101 . They have also confirmed it in my emails to them.

There was another outage from 17:33 to 17:43.
The server has been moved to another host so hopefully this is the end of the issues.

    Hi All,

It looks like email has been queueing up to be sent since the 1st of November.

I've made the system check more often for things like this.
The queue should start moving soon.

I'll put a little check into the system in-case mail starts queueing like this again.

Anyone else noticing the page name on the tab and the page H1 title are not matching the article being viewed?

The good news is that the site doesn't appear to have been hacked (which was my first worry!)

In fact, apart from the thread titles, everything else appeared to be OK. The files looked OK, even the database had the right thread title.

I went through all the database changes this morning (I log this sort of thing to files, so that I can dig into problems like this ) I think a modification I enabled at the weekend is messing with the forum cache and putting the wrong thread titles in it.

So I've disabled the modification and cleared the caches.

Things appear to be OK now, but do let me know of any problems

It happens occasionally on the joomla sites I manage. It is generally just a database glitch and a rebuilding of the tables sorts it.

Remember the sever issues I was having 2 or 3 weeks ago?

Well, they've been ongoing all this time, which is why I havn't been posting much, because it was just a pain in the arse, frankly....

Well suddenly just today, everything's back to fully working order.
I don't know what you did, but unless it's a fluke coincidence, it's fixed my ongoing problem too.
