Wayne,
Has it been OK the whole day - or just the last hour or less?Assume you're going to Win

Just the last hour or less.
It was still dodgy a few hours ago.

Glad to hear it
In the last hour I've disabled a piece of software on the server. It should have sped up the website, but I guess it was causing you problems
The software had been on this server since the migration at the end of July.
How odd that it would only start causing problems recently.
And don't forget the server got an unexpected reboot the other week (service provider issues), so switching it off and on again didn't help!Assume you're going to Win

I can't pretend to understand all this stuff, but I'm glad it's working properly again.
I bet I'm only person here still using XP. Probably something to do with that.

I'm finding that when I post a reply it takes about 5 secs to post. Before it was almost instant.
But if the forum is fine for everyone else I can handle the wait.

Reverse the polarity! Never fails.
I've just got my handcuffs and my truncheon and that's enough.

Ow!! Reverse be damned, that hurts!
Electric shocks.

Are you doing the Quick Reply or Advanced Reply?
The Quick Reply should be quick and works with minimal calls to the server.
The Advanced Reply takes longer and ends up reloading the whole page.
It does feel slower to me.
Pingdom (a monitoring tool) has also noticed a slow down.
So I've undone a change I made this evening.
I'll keep an eye on how the server/site feels.Assume you're going to Win

Yeah.
I can fix it for Wayne and make the site slow.
Or have the site fast and Wayne can't use it
I might do some tests - sometime. With a bit of extra logging I might be able to find out why it's going wrong for Wayne.
Because if it's going wrong for Wayne it should be going wrong for other people!!!Assume you're going to Win

Still fine for me.
But don't want to have it slow for other people just to make it better for me. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, etc...

Doesn't seem any slower than usual here...

Hi,
I've switched back the changes I made on Thursday, at least for a while.
I expect this to break access for Wayne - but I've enabled extra logging so I should be able to find out what's going on.Assume you're going to Win

I think I've hit on the issue - and fixed it.
It all started one day in front of the water cooler at work
-- insert sound effect --
"And you see, that's when he saw his reflection!" I said.
Everybody laughed
"And that's how I'll fix the PlanetSkaro site".
I received a quizzical look from some of the people.
"Well if I invert the matrix and rotate the positron flow around the now inversed flow", I start, "then when people visit the site the cosine of x rooted means that it will work much faster for them", I quickly finish up as a few people have started showing signs of becoming uninterested.
Everybody nods and sounds of agreement are heard

What was the problem?
Whatever you did, it's all working fine for me now.
Thanks Phil.

All you needed to do was replace the mercury fluid link. Honestly!

I seem to be having time-out issues again, same as before..... Was fine yesterday, but today it's being a pain in the proverbial.
Anyone else, or just me again?

The server got rebooted last night and is running the latest kernel.
There's been a few changes to the CMS and tweaks to the design, but nothing significant.
Let us know if it continues.Assume you're going to Win
