Am I the only person who has been getting loads of junk messages here recently? It has never been an issue in the past but.there just seems to have been quite a few recently.

I'm guessing there's a couple of reasons for this:

* a load of spam accounts, which need cleaning up. These weren't noticed due to lack of emails from the server. Us Admins/Mods get an email for every New User. When the server is acting normally it's really easy to spot an influx of these emails - just from our emails!

* the fact that the server's now sending emails means you're getting pingged about stuff that may have happened a while ago

It looks like a whole load of email wasn't sent for the past several months (!)

The site is now catching up with what it should have sent

Please do report any dodgy activity on the site, either here or to one of the Mods/Admins, so it can be dealt with.

The PM spam should be gone.

Don't know if it's just me, but every time I log on I get an 'Unread Private Messages' notification at the bottom of my screen - BUT there are never any unread private messages in my box. Anybody else getting this? I notice it's increased from (1) to (2) Private Messages recently, which half made me wonder whether in fact there might be some but for some reason I'm not seeing them.

I had that about a month ago and put it down to the general inbox notification problem at the time...?

There were a lot of spam messages in my inbox for a while, and in others as well. I suspect that a spam filter of some sort has been enabled so that we don't see them any more. I still get the unread private messages notification, as well, but no messages to be seen.

So there was a massive amount of PM spam, which I deleted via the database directly
(that seemed to be the easiest way)

However, that has left those "Unread" messages for people

I'll dig in to it
