I didn't think so carrying it all the way back from the library!

You're right though, it's a surprisingly simple read, given that Russian novelists of that era tend to have a reputation for being tough to get your head round.

I'm reading Picture Perfect by Jodi Picoult. It's not my kind of thing at all, but the reading group will probably like it.

I've just got my handcuffs and my truncheon and that's enough.

I'm on a bit of a roll at the moment - over the past couple of weeks I've finished off Eric Sykes' autobiography, and Elisabeth Sladen's.

I've also just finished the new Sherlock Holmes book, The House of Silk, which was extremely good, both in terms of capturing the style of the originals and also as a book in its own right. The plot is shocking, although I was at least pleased with myself for guessing the truth about halfway through (not to mention picking up on SILC). I hope Anthony Horowitz is contracted to do another one!!

And I've now started on a biography of Dave Allen - maybe I'll finally found out how he lost his finger!!

The Old House on the Corner by Maureen Lee. It's a bit of a saga.

I'd like to imagine that it's a total rip off Laura Ingall Wilder's classic, The Little House on the Prairie, except set in an old house instead of a little house, and on a corner instead of in a prairie...

I was hoping for an adult version of 'The Village With Three Corners' featuring Billy Blue Hat.

I've got The Slap! by Christos Tsiolkas. That'll teach me.

I've just started The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen. I've had it for years, and when I first started reading it I only got about 8 pages in before giving up on it. But this time I'm loving it, and raced through the first 100 pages in a day.

It was hard going, but in the end 'The Slap' was quite satisfying.

What on earth am I going to read next?!

A satisfying trip to a couple of S-H-bookshops has yielded The Conan Chronicles by Robert E Howard, and a collection of new Sherlock Holmes stories called The Game's Afoot.

Currently reading (and relishing!) “Never The Bride” by Paul Magrs. Really enjoying the adventures of Brenda & Effie as they try to discover the sinister secrets behind The Deadly Boutique. I hadn’t read anything about the book beforehand, so I’m intrigued by Brenda’s “secret” about who she really is. She keeps dropping little hints, so I’m looking forward to seeing how this develops. I now feel like booking into a Whitby B&B and playing bingo at The Christmas Hotel!

just finished reading 11./22/.1963 - by Steven King. it's been a very long time since I read one of his books and I thoroughly enjoyed it .and at 700 + pages in length it'd a typicaly long King book .

Loved the Evanovich- always a pleasure. Next up The Islanders by Christopher Priest.

It's a mystery - how to write well for Sherlock Holmes.

I'm reading Greybeard by Brian Aldiss.

The Salmon of Doubt. Such a shame, it was shaping up to be the best Dirk Gently yet.
