Default Casting Doctor Who: The Origins

Having watched 'The Road To Coronation Street' recently, which rather brilliantly dramatised the creation of Coronation Street, Andrew Curnow postulated the idea of doing the same thing for Doctor Who.

I think this is a great idea, but who would you cast as the main players? Who, around today, could you cast as William Hartnell? Who would make a good Sydney Newman? What about Verity Lambert, Warris Hussein, Carol Anne Ford, William Russell and Jacqueline Hill?

And if we carried if forward to The Daleks, who would you cast as Terry Nation and Raymond Cussick?

What else would you like to see in Doctor Who: The Origins? And can you think of a better title?

Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

I keep thinking Mark Gatiss could pass for a 60s Sydney Newman, although I'm not sure whether he could do a Canadian accent!

Or maybe that nice Matthew Smith, he's a good actor and looks good in a bow tie...

Michelle Ryan would make a fun Verity, with Rachel Stirling as Jacqueline Hill.

    Oooh, coconut macaroons!

    David Jason as William Hartnell?
Remember, just because Davros is dead doesn't mean the Dalek menace has been contained ......

Interesting. Must admit, I was wondering about Sylvester McCoy for the part.

Michelle Ryan's a good suggestion for Ms L I think, she's lively and vivacious but I could imagine would be quite firm when she needs to be.

    Jack Davenport as Mr Chesterton
    Raquel Cassidy as Miss Wright
Dennis, Francois, Melba and Smasher are competing to see who can wine and dine Lola Whitecastle and win the contract to write her memoirs. Can Dennis learn how to be charming? Can Francois concentrate on anything else when food is on the table? Will Smasher keep his temper under control?

If only the 28th century didn't keep popping up to get in Dennis's way...

Back in the day this was suggested, wasn't Pete Posthlewaite in line to play Hartnell? He;d still be great casting.
Elsehwre someone else suggested Keely Hawes as Verity Lambert. That'd work.

    Si xx
