Default News site apologises for 'Star Trek' gaffe

In an age when the press has a lot to apologise for, this is surely a contender for the least important apology ever printed.

An Australian news website has apologised for an error in an article about Star Trek.

Yesterday, News.com.au uploaded a piece about British publisher Haynes printing an Owners' Workshop Manual of the show's USS Enterprise.

In a second article today, the site said: "[We] incorrectly stated that the Star Trek starship USS Enterprise-E, otherwise known as model NNC-1701-E, was the successor to Captain Kirk's original USS Enterprise.

"It has since been brought to our attention that the NNC-1701-E in fact came two models after Captain Kirk retired and was under the command of Captain Jean Luc Picard.

"There was no intention whatsoever to suggest Captain Kirk may have commanded the Galaxy Class Starships Enterprise-D and Enterprise-E."
Dennis, Francois, Melba and Smasher are competing to see who can wine and dine Lola Whitecastle and win the contract to write her memoirs. Can Dennis learn how to be charming? Can Francois concentrate on anything else when food is on the table? Will Smasher keep his temper under control?

If only the 28th century didn't keep popping up to get in Dennis's way...

If only Lorainne Kelly would learn this!

I remember she'd often interview cast members of Next Gen going "Where's Mr Spook?".

I like to think that the apology should be read in the most incredibly sarcastic tone of voice, especially the last paragraph.

    How bloody ridiculous.

It's NCC-1701, not NNC, and the Enterprise-E was a Sovereign class, not a Galaxy class.

    I'm OUTRAGED! Brandy Smash!

    Oooh, coconut macaroons!

    "Captain, I'm sensing hostility!"
    "ouce*cough*oar-o-uk-n-us-sss*wheeze*"
"What? I can't hear you while he's choking you!"
"He said, "Counselor, you're so ****ing useless," Deanna."

    Oooh, coconut macaroons!

I wonder what Captain Kirk would have made of Wesley Crusher?

"He's a red shirt for you boy. Now go any hunt down the Horta with the security team, whilst I get ready to console your mother ..."

Heck even Spock would have "arranged" a little airlock accident before he went all Charlie X on them

Kirk wouldn't really have fared well on the "D" Enterprise.

KIRK: You Klingon bastard - you killed my son.

TROI: Captain, you need to mind your language*. It isn't appropriate for the workplace.

WORF: And we're not all bastards you know! You don't hear me blame you for Hitler! (Starts crying)

TROI: You're hurt his feelings. Now I hope we've all learned something important about bullying in the workplace!

[* There's an injoke there waiting to be found]
