    Default Ps3 Online Multiplayer games

I have had my PS3 for a while now and just recently I have got into playing first person shooters like Resistance, Resistance 2 and Battlefield: Bad Company 1 and 2. The question I have is about the online multiplayer games, how do go about joining one?
Do you join a game and start shooting, do you need the headsets with mics and does it take much memory to play?
The reason I asked the last question is that I will be going through my mobile dongle which has 15 gb of allowance each month and I don't want to rush through it.
I hope what I just wrote made sense, it did when I was thinking it.

The headsets enhance the experience - but aren't needed. My son likes to chat with some of his friends online. Can be good fun, but some games can have little whiney American kids!

I don't think it uses up too much bandwidth, as my son can still play it when we're on dialup speeds.
Remember, just because Davros is dead doesn't mean the Dalek menace has been contained ......
