Indeed. It was a several months before I twigged that in fact The Pheonix Rises wasn't going to happen...

The return of those guys may provide the opening for the return of Tom, Colin & co playing older versions of their Doctors who turn out, of course, to be imposters...possibly this could be one way of tackling the problem of how much the actors have aged since they played the role...regardless, it's great to see them back at last!

That's a possibility, isn't it? I'm surprised that they're back for the special though- I thought it'd be the Daleks myself.

Maybe they're just the first of many returning monsters to be announced? Perhaps they're going to out-Five Doctors 'The Five Doctors'!!!

I can't see why story wise the Zygons would look like older Doctors. I wonder if the Zygon will be a cameo and there'll be a proper Zygon story next year to get the money's worth from the costume. They'd have been a shoe in if the Sarah Jane Adventures was still going.

Or maybe they've already been used and this is the return cameo?

The blurb today for the final story has come out and it says "Someone is kidnapping the Doctors friends and leading him to the one place in time and space he shouldn't go"

I wonder if, given the look of the location they're filming at, and the lone monster, it's the Death Zone...

The BBC has denied tabloid reports that Christopher Eccleston has 'pulled out' of the Doctor Who 50th anniversary episode.

The Daily Star claimed that Eccleston - who played the Ninth Doctor in 2005 - had agreed to star in the special but pulled out as filming was about to start.

However, the BBC has now told Digital Spy that Eccleston was never attached to the 50th and that his decision has had no impact on production.

"Chris met with Steven Moffat a couple of times to talk about Steven's plans for the Doctor Who 50th anniversary episode," an official source said.

"After careful thought, Chris decided not to be in the episode. He wishes the team all the best."

The anniversary special - to be shot in 3D - will star Matt Smith (the Eleventh Doctor) and David Tennant (the Tenth Doctor) opposite Jenna-Louise Coleman (Clara) and Billie Piper (Rose).
    Well done Chris.

I'm not in the least bit surprised by that. He was always going to be the most difficult to get back.

Is there any spare footage around from any of his episodes that was unscreened? Perhaps punting down a river or something...

    Kate Lethbridge-Stewart is back!

Jemma Redgrave returns to ‘Doctor Who’ for 50th special
The BBC has confirmed that Jemma Redgrave will be appearing in Doctor Who's 50th anniversary special.

The official website today revealed: "We’re delighted to reveal that Jemma Redgrave will be returning to Doctor Who for the show’s fiftieth anniversary special. She previously appeared in 2012’s 'The Power of Three' playing Kate Stewart, daughter of the legendary Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart."

The website also promises more news about the episode "very soon".

Starring regulars Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman alongside David Tennant, Billie Piper, Joanna Page and John Hurt, the special will air on BBC One in November and will receive a limited worldwide 3D cinema release.
