    Default 2005 Contemporary TV

A bit different from what I've done before, as firstly it's arguably too recent to be looking back nostalgically, plus it's the age of digital, multichannel TV, plus I don't have monthly Top 20s (and even if I did they'd be full of soaps anyway and pretty repetitive so, courtesy of DWM, here's the Top 20 programmes of 2005, with the average annual viewing figures. This does not include one-off programmes, however - to qualify, there must have been a minimum of 3 episodes broadcast.

    1) Coronation Street - 11.09m
    2) EastEnders - 10.19m
    3) I'm A Celebrity - 9.32m
    4) The X Factor - 8.73m
    5) Doc Martin - 8.69m
    6) Emmerdale - 8.63m
    7) Heartbeat - 8.61m
    8) Midsomer Murders - 8.57m
    9) The Royal - 8.38m
    10) Strictly Come Dancing - 8.32m
    11) Dalziel and Pascoe - 8.15m
    12) Doctor Who - 8.08m
    13) Ant & Dec's Gameshow Marathon - 8.04m
    14) Little Britain - 7.98m
    15) Casualty - 7.79m
    16) Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway - 7.54m
    17) Wire in the Blood - 7.53m
    18) Life Begins - 7.38m
    19) Waking The Dead - 7.30m
    20) The Two Ronnies Sketchbook - 7.04m

Wow. And the only show I watched on that list was Doctor Who!

    Ant & Dec's Gameshow Marathon
Really, this is vomit surgically removed from TV's gullet.
Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

The Two Ronnies Sketchbook was a lovely nostalgic look back at their work.

I'm surprised the magnificent Hustle isn't on the list. That was and still is a TV highlight for me.

Didn't it start off on BBC2? Wouldn't have picked up very high ratings there.

Actually is Hustle still on BBC2?!
