Default Matt Smith in "Christopher and His Kind"

Matt Smith stars as author Christopher Isherwood in this TV Movie directed by Geoffrey "The TV Movie" Sax on Saturday Night on BBC 2/ BBC HD.

The 'divinely decadent' Berlin cabaret scene is in full swing when a young and wide-eyed Christopher Isherwood arrives in the city to stay with his close friend and occasional lover, the poet WH Auden. To Isherwood's reserved English sensibility, the city's thriving gay subculture is thrilling and intoxicating. But Christopher soon finds himself heartbroken after the failure of a hopeless love affair, and so sets out on a process of self-discovery as he forges an identity and place for himself amidst the chaos of 1930s Berlin.
Looks like it's going to be really good.

You can read an interview with Geoffrey Sax here: http://www.cultbox.co.uk/interviews/...kind-interview

(who knew he was offered work on the new series then, eh?)

There was a thing on digital spy saying Smith has been forbidden from "getting anything out" on TV while he's concurrently in Doctor Who, presumably in case some rabid Gallifreybase posters have to burn their eyes out in shock and complain because they can't tell Doctor Who from other dramas and think it contradicts "An Unearthly Child".

So we're unlikely to get Smith's Sweet Arse Cheeks in this slice of arty BBC2 drama.

    Let alone his willy wonga.

certainly looking forward to this - I hope Matt, proves to all his doubters that he is a much better actor then they give him credit for.

This has been rescheduled a couple of times for some reason, so I'm glad it's finally getting an airing.

Smith also revealed that there may be some nudity in the show, despite reports that he was told not to strip off.

"I think you might see my bum," he said. "The fact that it went to places like that was one of the lures for me. Hopefully, it's a brave choice, I think creatively, that's always interesting."

I was going to watch this, and have indeed PVR'd it but.....I've decided not to watch it. For now at least.

I'm enjoying his portrayal of The Doctor so much, that I've realised I don't want to see him playing anyone else at the moment.

I went to bed at about 9.30 last night so didn't see it, but Mother rang me up this morning and said she'd watched the first half hour but given up because it was too much like pornography.

Just before that gets anybody's hopes up, I should explain that her threshold for what qualifies as pornography is pretty low.

there was a nice line at the begining when Christopher was talking to his mum before he left for Berlin and his mum said "you were going to become a doctor" that did make me smile.

Well he was going to become a doctor!

There was an early use of the C*** word, first time I can remember hearing it on British TV. Matt got engaged in a very... energetic man-on-man scene.

It was absolutely bloody wonderful, I thought. I was worried that it would be a little slow, but Matt Smith was so engaging it really drew me in. He just has this way about him, this kooky charisma. He was a bit doctor-ey at times, but he's much better at being a totally different character than David Tennant is. (Though not as good as Eccleston!)

All of the actors were great actually, I particularly liked Imogen Poots as Christopher's lady-friend Jean Ross.

But what really stood out was Geoffrey Sax's direction. The book-burning sequence and his depiction of Berlin turning to the Nazis were outstanding.

I can understand why you might want to wait until he's not Doctor Who any more before seeing this, but deffo see it at some point!

Now if only I could track down David Tennant in Crime and Punishment...

    Wonderful.

Isherwood should ahve been hateful, but he was quite endearingly played by Matt Smith (who was of course, wonderful) and despite him being rather shallow I ended up rather liking him.

The book burning scene and the gathering air of menace in Berlin was really well broight to life. Geofreey "The TV Movie" Sax was really rather good. There's was lots of interesting direction throughout I thought.

Well worth an hour and a half of your time.

    And lots of sex!
