Default The Random Doctor Who Thread

The thread to put random stuff about Who that doesn't fit any where else.

Just recently the children have decided they want to listen to the missing episode audios at bedtime. These are normally kept in a cupboard by the door and when I went into it this morning to get something else I noticed that they had left one cd behind. The Space Pirates

You couldn't get more Who related rubbish than Space Pirates.

I have an old View Master, with only one set of reels, Castrovalva. Apparently there was another set of Doctor Who reels that came out. Does anyone know what it was? I'm presuming it was one of Tom's stories.

It was Full Circle. I had that set. I always wanted the Castrovalva set, but never saw it in the shops.

I'm surprised at that, Si. At the time I went into our local toyshop so see if they had the Castrovalva version and the shopkeeper said they had loads of them: "On this shelf here, along here, over there, and around there also" he said...

I remember asking for one and being told he didn't have any in his shop but did in his philosophy.
Dennis, Francois, Melba and Smasher are competing to see who can wine and dine Lola Whitecastle and win the contract to write her memoirs. Can Dennis learn how to be charming? Can Francois concentrate on anything else when food is on the table? Will Smasher keep his temper under control?

If only the 28th century didn't keep popping up to get in Dennis's way...

I had both sets - sadly none exist anymore!!!
I prefered the Castrovalva one - the 3Dness of it was excellent!!!
There was a good a shot of 3 of the spiders on a rock in the Fullk circle set though!

For me the best moment was when the Nuclear Plant Director shouted at a female employee to do something... who then shouted the same instructions to the person standing next to her who heard the original instruction by the director! I hope Tom is on the commentary and laughed his head off at that.

HOW DID ELDRAD REACT TO THE NEWS THAT HIS RACE WAS EXTINCT? DID HE HAVE A QUIET MOMENT OF REFLECTION AND CONTEMPLATION? WHAT DO YOU THINK!?!

If ever an actor was type-cast for shouty roles, it's Stephen Thorne!

Seriously, how were they ever going to stoke up a romantic sub plot between Jo and Mike Yates? There's more sexual chemistry between Harry Towb and the inflatable chair that throttles him. His idea of romance was a hot mug of Fetch A Tin Of What, and does he even bring two cups? No, he does not. She has to resort to chatting up the old Scot in the UNIT Supplies Department. By Episode 3, Yates is eyeing up the telephone repair man's bottom and all is lost. A few years later when Jo gets herself a Professor, there's the funniest moment of all. Clearly half-remembering this subplot that never was, the director obviously asks Richard Franklin to appear slightly crestfallen when Jo announces her engagement. Talk about half-hearted! He actually looks overjoyed. And who does he rush to for a congratulory hug seconds later? Is it Jo? No, it is not. It's the dishy Professor. Poor Mike only gets a handshake though.

The next year he's living with lots of vulnerable middle class men in a big house in the country where there is lots of sinister back-mounting going on, but no-one will let him join in. At least Jo got to take someone up the Amazon.

    Si.

But notice how kind they were to her by not pointing out it's pronounced "May-tricks"?

I can see the 118 118 advert now.
"If you want a baddie/Who's rather shouty" (Stephen Thorne) WHO ARE YOU GOING TO COMMUNICATE WITH TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE? "I think my eardrum has perforated 118?"

The moral of this is: Never leave Stephen thorne in the same room as Brian Blessed.

    "ELDRAD MUST LIVE!"

    "BUT ELDRAD'S ALIVE!"

Si makes Mike sound such a tragic figure.

I wonder if the love interest thing would have worked if Ian Marter had been cast as Mike? Or if Rula Lenska had been Jo? Maybe it's the casting that let the idea be forgotten.

Don't you just hate it when your brain, like mine is currently, tells you that you really want to watch Mark of the Rani?

    You've changed.

This is your brain's way of reacting to the fact that I didn't enjoy the Tom Baker Big Finish trailer, isn't it?
