    Default Jon Pertwee

    Here's DoG's Pertwee piece.

    Jon Pertwee

Again, The same questions regarding Pertwee. What do you think of his characterisation of the Doctor? How important/successful do you think he was? Are you familiar with anything else from his career outside of the series? And how big an influence was he on the series and/or the character of the Doctor as the series continued through the decades?

What do you think of his characterisation of the Doctor?
Controversially I'm not very fond fo the Third Doctor. I find his arrogance a bit much to take at times (throughout season 8 he's mostly horrible and unlikeable, at least i find him so) but when he's mellowed a bit he's a bit more fun.

How important/successful do you think he was?
Very important and very successful. I think Pertwee saved Doctor Who from oblivion and however much i may personally not like this era, the fact that it is fondly remembered by so many people from the time shows they did something right. Maybe you had to be there. You only have to look at the Pertwee fans on the board to see this!

Are you familiar with anything else from his career outside of the series?
Yes, Jon Pertwee the convention raconteur was something wonderful! Much mocked perhaps, but in an affectionate way I think.
I've also seen some of the films he did and other TV work.

And how big an influence was he on the series and/or the character of the Doctor as the series continued through the decades?
Huge! In fact this can't be underestimated because he took Doctor Who and shaped it around him. The Doctor suddenly really became the focal point for the show- no longer was it about wondering in space and time, it was all about the Doctor and the threats coming to him, with Pertwee magnificently striding around sorting it all out.
