    Default Wood It Console You?

Come to think of it, that was the old boot cupboard!

What do you think of the wood panelled console room? Is it a marvel of interior design? Is it better than the traditional white roundels? Do you think it should have lasted longer?

What about the comparatively small wooden console, complete with the shaving mirror that is a shaving mirror and nothing else?

Check it out in more detail at:

I always liked this console room. But then I love the whole Jules Verne feel of the TV movie console so it's probably not surprising. The console was a little small but even so I'd have liked to see it get used more.

I heard that it was going to appear (albeit rendered with CGI - bit expensive to rebuild it) at the end of The Doctor's Wife, but the scene was cut for timing.

The scene has the Doctor, Amy & Rory walking down a corridor (maybe it was written to make yet more use of their one corridor set!!) with the Doctor opening doors left and right - basically, the 'joke' was that now he's realised all his old console rooms have been kept, he's showing Amy & Rory his past glories.

Amy: Show us what you've got then Doctor.
Rory: If we like them, can we replace - you know - what you've got now.
Doctor: Vote for the desktop theme, you mean? Democracy in action.
    Rory: Er, yes.
    Doctor: No.
(Doctor opens doors, glancing in and summing up, at breakneck speed.)
    Doctor: I've got roundels--
    (Opens another door)
Doctor: I've got lots of computers, very 80s--
    (Opens another door)
    Doctor: I've got wood.

I can only apologise for that.

No need to apologise. Made me smile.

I remember being surprised when first getting the Robots Of Death video to see them in this control room. I rather liked it.
Pith it "warped in storage" or whatever the excuse was for removing it.

I like the wooden console room the wooden walls the dim lights just made it feel much more homely than the brightly lit usual one and I think it was much more in keeping with Tom's Doctor.

Pi-ty? I have no concept of the word (standard joke on a Doctor Who forum) ...

But yeah, oddly it's the console room which has dated the least. And in fact looks closer to the console rooms we use now I think.

It looks like a room designed for style and comfort, and fits in with the idea of the Tardis as an "old girl" antique over the most advanced technology in the series.

Quite honestly, a piece of design brilliance.
Remember, just because Davros is dead doesn't mean the Dalek menace has been contained ......

I like it, but it's not the best - that accolade goes to the TARDIS console room from the TV Movie!

    I don't think there's been a proper console room since season 25
