There are LOADS of REM Greatest Hits albums, even if you ignore the official one which they promoted a few years back.

It's not escaped my memory that REM have long been peddlers of the "We almost split" anecdote every time they have a new album to push. Is this just a step further? If there was a hugely warm reaction to the new material, I find it hard to believe the band would stay buried! But is this likely?

All they've ever needed to do is do an album of warm, melodic tunes again like they did on "Automatic". They could easily capture the Kings of Leon/Chilli Peppers older teen/adult audience if they wanted to.

Or maybe they just want to stop.

REM Best ofs include: The Best of REM, REM Singles Collected, Eponymous, In Time, The Best of the IRS Years... None of them are Greatest Hits and indeed, neither is this one, since it misses off some of their greatest hits!

Rolling Stone magazine have an exclusive stream of R.E.M.'s final single "We All Go Back To Where We Belong". Oh... it already said that...

The hits album is apparently called "Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage"

    Catchy title.

Even the abbreviation sounds like a drowning man. PLPHPTPG.

Very interesting interview on last night's Radio 4 Front Row in which they talked about getting their lives back after being in the same band for 31 years.
    Certainly an impressive journey

Tried to buy the new song but it's not available as a single. I'm not buying all the songs I already own again, so fine. I'll get it "elsewhere".

    Well done everyone.

"There's no animosity, there's no weirdness... we love each other, and have huge respect for each other," he explained. "We reached a point where it didn't feel like it made sense to carry on any further, and we happened to do that at a very high point in a 31-year career of highs and lows."
They certainly went out on a high with their last album. Whatever it was called.
