I'd never thought of ordering tea in a pub and then a few months ago Mr Simon Hart did it and then a few months later he did it again and I joined in! I felt old and someone I used to drink beer with sat and laughed at me and took photos. But I now realise I was in denial and have admitted the truth. I am old enough to buy tea in a pub. And I'm happy with that. Sob.

Don't get me wrong I don't think there's anything wrong with drinking tea in a pub. Most times these days I very seldom drink alcohol at the pub but I just can't bring myself to pay £2 for a teabag and hot water.

It felt odd the first time and then it felt GOOD! Especially now I drive quite often, it's noce to be able to have a cuippa in the pub rather than be forced to have a juice or lemonade or coke or whatever- sometimes, in fact most of the time, I like a cup of tea more than any other drink.

I've just got my handcuffs and my truncheon and that's enough.

And I have a biological defect that means if someone else drinks tea, or even talks about it, I have to have one. I'm a nightmare to watch TV with.

Or to get you wanting a cup of tea!

I'm the same, Si. I drink tea A LOT!! As the folk at Hart/Alexandrer Towers can testify I'm sure.
More than once I asked if anyone wanted another cup of tea.

Loose leaf tea has recently fallen back into favour in our house, following the purchase of a magnificent new teapot. Currently we're alternating between Darjeeling and Tinnings Englisg Breakfast. Both are very good.

I'm still drinking extra strong. There was a report from Scotland that heavy drinkers of tea are more likely to develop prostrate cancer.
I'd like to inform them that a United Nations report* has claimed over 90% of the water and fish is contaminated by pesticides and diesel petrol has also been linked to cancer. So you know, drink up! Sod it! If tea doesn't kill me something else will. So I'm taking the scenic route to death.

I'm never in favour of people finding excuses for things that are bad for them by saying "X is also bad for you though". Like smokers pointing out how dangerous alcohol is. Quite honestly, it's got nothing to do with it! You wouldn't get in an unsafe car because there's quite a reasonable risk of dying on an aeroplane would you?

However, in this case the amount specified was seven cups of tea a day for a 50% risk increase, which points to some kind of unhealthy tea obsession, or too much time on your hands. And the study wasn't hugely conclusive. If I drunk seven cups a day, I'd be worried about my teeth colour and caffeine intake anyway.

I think my 1/2 cups a day intake is within acceptable parameters.

I generally have 6 cups a day. My teeth are fine and I'm sure that in time this claim, like all the other claims about things that migth give you cancer will be retracted. Like red wine- at the same time it's good and bad for you. I am of the opinion that anything in moderation is ok. So I might be rash, but, I'm not about to change.

The key sentence in the BBC report on this is

"We don't know whether tea itself is a risk factor or if tea drinkers are generally healthier and live to an older age when prostate cancer is more common anyway."
    Translated as
"We did some number crunching and found this interesting fact, but we have no idea what it means"

I bet they found that on average the men all had 2 legs too

On which note, I'm enjoying a rather nice cup of Ceylon... no milk, no sugar. Just au naturelle!

You're drinking tea naked?! Whatever you do, don't spill it on your lap.

I'd like a cup of Assam. I think I'll make a pot when I get home.

I must bring my packets of Lapsang Souchong, Assam into work with me.

And some decent mugs - by the time I have a cup of tea in the morning, most of the mugs have gone!

There are places you can buy good tea in Qatar but they're a bit spread out. Decaff I've found there's one place only with a good selection, which is the Mega Mart that has loads of imports from places like Waitrose.

As for decent Ceylon, Darjeeling and Assam, they're long forgotten but cherished memories for me!
Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!
