    Default Real Player To MP3

    Hi

Does anyone know of a good free program to convert real player files into MP3 files?

    Cheers

What file extension are Real Player files?

iTunes converts most music files to MP3, and it's free.

You could try Audacity, there's a link to it on the freeware section of The Vervoid site
Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

You can't, because .rm and .ram are just shortcut files - they allow you to play the audio from on-line, but the song (or whatever) isn't contained in the file itself. If you look, the file will be very small.

What you can do, however, is to plug a phono-to-phono lead into your speaker socket, with the other end going into your microphone socket, and use Sound Recorder to record the song as it plays.

Which is what Audacity does without all the faffing around with sockets!

Yes, does it?! Because I tried to use it to record some music playing online to MP3 the other night and could NOT work out how to do it.

I find it hard to believe it could rip stuff being played through the PC output, otherwise it would be very easy just to rip anything on Myspace, for example. Please explain how to do it Si, I'll be eternally grateful if it works!

Get Steve to explain it! I've only looked over his shoulder, but I believe the basic principle is that audicity can record whatever sound is coming through your pc, in whatever format and create an mp3 out of it. We've copied some stuff off a CD single for example just by recording the sound output with this program.

But I might have the wrong program entirely, of course. I'm not very techy.

Steve will explain it better I'm sure.

I've found a little program on the net which does what I want it to. And its free. I have no idea if it works but will give it a try later today.
I did have a program before but its trial period ran out.

Try AudioMaestro...it can record any sound played on a computer as any of a variety of file formats. I had this as a trial version a few years ago, it was a pretty good programme and was easy enough to use. The trial version lasted for a month, iirc...it just stopped working after that. I don't know if it's still available, though.

I use Jodix to convert WMVs to MP4s and they also do a RM to MP3 converter which you can get here.
Dennis, Francois, Melba and Smasher are competing to see who can wine and dine Lola Whitecastle and win the contract to write her memoirs. Can Dennis learn how to be charming? Can Francois concentrate on anything else when food is on the table? Will Smasher keep his temper under control?

If only the 28th century didn't keep popping up to get in Dennis's way...

I found a little program called Super which works pretty well. I'll give your recommendationa a go as well though, Lissa and use the one I like best.

Thanks to everyone for your help.
