That's ridiculous. Isn't someone planning these things?!

Perhaps it's a remake which remembers to include Leela and Kamelion when the Doctor is having his brain drained?
Oooh, coconut macaroons!

I really enjoyed "The Happiness Patrol" audio book, once I got used to Rula's creaky gate voice. I still don't like her Sylvester McCoy though, he's far too Scottish.
The book sticks dissapointingly close to the TV version, although it was good re-living my favourite scenes - the sniper showdown, "Fifi's been eating far too many chocolates lately!" and all the brilliant Kandyman scenes. My favourite bits of Kandy dialogue:
(answers phone) "Kandy man?"
"What time do you call this?"
"Just because Helen A prefers my ugly side, doesn't mean I don't care!"
"I'm a Kandy Man of my word!"
"That would be telling!"
What a wonderful story this is. The book/CD actually makes it slightly more disturbing, as the deaths are given a little more emphasis. But it's a story that really MEANS something. It's a story about how good intentions have spiralled out of control and lost all their meaning, and ended up as something awful. And also about how, ultimately, love can thrive in the darkest of doings, as Helen A realises that she DOES genuinely care about something.
Yes, it looks cheap in every respect but in that way it's almost a metaphor for the story, and a test of the integrity of any Doctor Who fan - if you care about peripheral things THAT much, then you've missed the point.

In checking those quotes, I discovered that somebody has decided to transcribe the entire story onto a web page:

Curious.

And, in fact, every other story as well:

I've started getting into the Target audio books and they're really good. I do think they win or lose according to who narrates them. I've listened to Castravalva and Peter Davison is great. Martin Jarvis does a good job on Dinosaur invasion but I was quite taken with Carolin John as a narrator. She seems as though she'd reading the words as a series of orders or something. I dunno quite what it is but she just doesn't do it right!

Caroline "Every character different accent!" John!
I'm in the bedroom time zone with David Troughton reading me The War Games. He's ever so good a reader. His voices are great fun.
I've just got my handcuffs and my truncheon and that's enough.

I've got that one to look forward to.
I'm just about to start on Logopolis, read by Christopher H. Bidmead himself. Be interesting to heard how he does it.

I think he does it very well. It's one of my favourites in fact.

Ah, I think you're getting Shada confused with Paradise Towers there!
Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

In what way? Are you saying PT is 10 discs?! This seems unlikely.

Oh, that was me- I'd posted the PT cover and we were talking about that... then you came and started about Shada and well, confusion.
But yes, Shada is no doubt 10 CDs- it's a long book apparently.

Waiting with baited breath for the Shada audiobook to arrive! Is there any reason to suspect this release may have been delayed?

According to amazon despite listing the Shada audiobook as being published today it hasn't yet been released. The estimated delivery date for my order is March 23rd. I assumed when I ordered it that they might have just put that to cover themselves but it seems now that it won't be released for another week. Still at least that'll be just in time for my birthday

Graham Norton just said Shada on Radio 2 which was slightly surreal. Lalla coming up very shortly...
