Default UK-wide recall of Christmas Decorations Shaped Like Sweets!

    http://uk.news.yahoo.com/candy-shape...%E2%80%99.html

A UK-wide recall of Christmas decorations resembling sweets has been launched after they were deemed too dangerous for kids and therefore illegal under EU law.

London-based firm O Widmann and Company – a seasonal gifts importer – has been forced remove its products imitating sweets, like lollipops and candy-striped rock, from the market.

Councils across the country have warned people to be cautious of Christmas decorations that imitate food products because of the dangers they pose to the safety of young children in terms of suffocation, poisoning, perforation or obstruction of the digestive system if eaten
Which, I suppose, is all very well and good. But it does lead to the slightly stupid situation of millions of childless house-holds not being allowed to buy plastic sweets.

Can't people regulate themselves? Does it have to be an EU Law?

    Thoughts?

    Si.

People don't want to take responsibility for anything any more. It's all about who you can blame for what's happened to you rather than thinking, well if I'd thought a bit more about it, then it wouldn't have happened...

I'm generalising a bit probably, but that does seem to be the ethos.

I've just got my handcuffs and my truncheon and that's enough.

The strange thing to me is that it's European law. I'm usually fairly pro-europe, but this seems a bit excessive to me.

I'm with Si Hart on this one.
People want other people/companies to blame when things go wrong.
