Awkward times in the Wallis household: things hadn't been particularly enjoyable the previous year, with starting a senior school I never settled into, and my parents' arguing being at its worst. Then in January, Mum went into hospital. My brother and i were being looked after by neighbours, which meant missing a couple of episodes of Castrovalva and Four to Doomsday. Not long after the series finished, Mum went home to mother, taking Brother with her. My health and Dad's temper started to detriorate from there.

I was 12 and 6 months when S19 began. I was in the second year of the school at Chatteris, Cambs where we lived (in a shop). We sold all sorts of things, including the Cambridge Evening News, which by 1982 I was doing the paper-round for after coming in from school - my first paid job!

I didn't like that school very much, but luckily I moved to a much, much better school in September 82 where I did my O and A Levels.
