The Doctor, Ace and Raine battle the Metatraxi!

The nice thing about this one is it's scope; involving jaunts to Russia, sword-fighting sultans and skulduggery back home in England. The magical "safe" scene you have always imagined is slightly less magical when depicted as a gurning, groaning Sylvester McCoy struggling out of the safe which he is crammed into, because his back hurts. But Raine is really good!

I didn't come to this having previously heard of the opening scene (if that was on the DVD feauture on Survival it somehow passed me by) so the whole thing was new to me. It was great to have the continuity connection with the previous story in which Chalmers and Groves previously appeared as Raine's parents but yes this is a story with a geographic scale to match one of the better episodes of Spooks and some great shocks and surprises in the manner in which some of the characters are dealt with.
I wasn't sure I initially liked Raine but that was more to do with how she was written by Cartmel then Beth's excellent performance.
