I keep imagining Paul as Blake now...

    Wanted for Drimes against C.W.A.S?

The 'C' of CWAS is a lot clearer than the 'C' of which I assume is crimes?

But other than that, I can't wait!!!

Just ten days to wait until Episode 1 goes on-line!

An all-action adventure in time and space, "The Next Universe" sees the return of Paul Monk as Doctor Who, Steven Alexander as Rob McCow and Martin Penny as Edward Bradley, and takes the Doctor from Abbey Road Studios in 1973 to Earth in the far future and a place outside of time and space altogether!

It also contains the words/phrases "Jedward", "Great Googly Mooglies" and "Archers Omnibus".

It could even refer to a large bus specifically for arrow-shooting types.

A few words about the background to this story, without giving away anything that will spoil your enjoyment of what's to come, of course!

I don't think it's unfair to say that this is the "biggest" story we've ever attempted. It's also, by far, the one that has taken the longest to complete. I have finished (at the time!) versions of the script dating back to early summer 2010, approaching two years ago, so it's been over two years in development. I always wanted Si and I to write this one together, mirroring the way we wrote "Echoes of the Protii" back in 2006 - although where-as, with that story, we both sat around a keyboard, for "The Next Universe" we batted the script backwards and forwards writing a scene each. I wonder if anyone will be able to tell who wrote which scene?

You might notice that there is the odd returning character in "The Next Universe". It was never the intention to include old characters for the sake of it, but the initial idea was to write the story that we'd always wanted to. You know all those vanity like ideas that you have when you first want to write a fan audio, but of course you shy away from because you try to be serious and a little controlled and not self indulgent (even us!)? Well, that's all gone out the window. This is a sweet-shop of a story, full of treats!

It must also hold the record for the number of recording sessions undertaken for a single story. I think "The Next Universe" must be unique in that there was never any "main recording" - it was all done here and there, a bit at a time, people visiting or e-mailing me files. There are bits that were taped on an oil rig, bits done on my phone, bits sent a line at a time... I think the quality holds up remarkably well, given the number of different sources used to tape lines! So it's been a real work in progress. It must be two years since a certain person came to my house to reprise a character from "Echoes of the Protii" - those scenes, taped, are not even in the final story (although the performer is!) as the story subsequently got re-written. At the other end of the production timeline, I was still editing a scene only last week, and likewise a character dramatically referred to another character who - due to ancient rewrites - isn't actually in the story anymore! Thank goodness for the ability to edit a word out of a finished line!

So it's been a labour of love, really. It's a story that looks fondly to the past - and, I warn you now, it's not one to introduce people to the series with. They will get hopelessly lost! This is a reward for those of you who have stuck with us over the last six years. At the same time, the story both covers new ground and shakes things up. It leaves our Doctor in a situation that will change things forever, and drastically affect his future travels. If he makes it through to have any, of course! Oh, and get your hankies out for the ending, as a certain someone (not saying who) gives an astounding performance.

Just to give you some background. Basically you need to listen!

    Si.

It is true to say that nothing will ever be the same afterthis one...

And that myself and Mr Hunt had so much fun writing this, throwing ideas around, writing dialogue and scenes that made each other laugh.

I've just got my handcuffs and my truncheon and that's enough.
