But, in all seriousness, how is the shortlist decided? If one is left with a selection of artistes they've never seen live, it's surely an impossible decision. IF one has seen Muse live but not George Michael (for example), how can one possibly decide who is the better live act?

As for the Phil Collins remark, I'll ignore it. He won the award for Best British Male Solo Artist in 1986, 1989 and 1990. So meh.
The Eighties at the Brits are quite hideous... and if you look, Annie Lennox wins best female EVERY SINGLE YEAR.

    Brit winners...

It's the same for many awards, surely... British music is so diverse that it's never going to be definitive. And most things never are.

    Rubbish! Semi-retired?! Jarvis isn't semi-retired!
Surely this album is the first he's knocked out in 5 years (bar one silly side-project thing under another name). How is that not semi-retired?

Bob Dylan hadn't released a new studio album for five years before last years Modern Times, so would you call him semi-retired?

Jarvis was taking a break after being in Pulp for 23 years, but he's back now, in the charts and touring.

No, because he's been playing shows every month since 1988.

But Jarvis has an new album out, preparing for a second single, and is currently touring, so how can he be semi-retired?

He's been writing songs for other people and playing on their records too.

Bit of a silly argument really... HE'S NOT RETIRED. End of...

I'd rather listen to Phil Collins whilst having it off with Phil Collins than listen to a single second of a Muse song.

Fair do's. Gotta admit, i'm not big on lyrics. Someone could be singing any old shit, but i wouldn't really care if i liked the actual music.
Good job really, considering some of Robert Plant's bobbins lyrics.

I should know right from wrong

See me comin, throw your man out the door
Ain't no stranger, done been this way before
See me comin, mama, throw your man out the door
I ain't no stranger, I been this way before

You know by night I'm gonna shake 'em on down
    Put on your night shirt
    Mama, and your morning gown
Well, you know by night I'm
    Surely gonna shake 'em down
    Shake it, shake it

Ooh, your custard pie, yeah, sweet and nice
When you cut it, mama, save me a slice
    Your custard pie, yeah
I declare, it's sweet and nice
    Like your custard pie
    When you cut it, mama
Mama, please save me a slice... oh

Chew on a piece of your custard pie
Chew on a piece of your custard pie
Chew on a piece of your custard pie
Chew on a piece of your custard pie

    Drop down
    Drop down
    Drop down
    Drop down
    Drop down, yeah
    Drop down
    Drop down

Chew on a piece of your custard pie#
