Default Can anyone recommend a decent alternative to McAfee?

Can anyone recommend a decent virus guard provider as an alternative to McAfee? We've been using McA for a while but it's proving ineffective and is also very resource-hungry when performing scans and the like.

    Thanks!

AVG Anti-virus is good. It's also free.

Also check out WinPatrol and CCleaner, between them you should be able to get your PC running all tickety-boo. Google will tell you where they are.
Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

    Thanks Steve!

I belive we already have AVG, I was thinking of a good all-round PC security package (I should have been clearer in my original post!)

I wouldn't recommend WinPatrol now, it's resource intensive and you get the same info as typing msconfig into the Run box

I would use AVG as your firewall, then regularly run CCleaner and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to check for Trojans and spyware.

All free, and that's all you need.

As far as I know CCleaner is just for clearing out junk you don't need and freeing up a bit of disk space, nothing to do with virus or malware protection. Unless its scope has widened since I last updated it.

That's all correct. We were just trying to be helpful by suggesting another useful tool.
