We've already been to Oman (O, Man!) for a week and a bit. I might have a few weeks off between jobs. Then maybe a cheap holiday in Spain later this year. Oh and Si keeps telling me Northumbria is nice. Phew, I'll be tired out with all this holidaying!
Where in the UK would you like to visit that you haven't been yet?Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

Ronnie Corbett. Apart from replacing Tony Robinson as the shortest knight of the year...
What's your favourite time of the year?
-

Spring. I adore the Spring. Everything coming back to life, the evenings drawing out, all the hope.
What was your favourite book when you were little?

Alice in Wonderland - and then, when I finally (after what seemed like forever) got my hands on the sequel, Through the Looking-Glass. Re-reading them to Claudia when she was little, I'm not sure I'm such a fan now but as a kid most definitely.
(Honourable 'runner-up' mention to The Wombles Go Round the World)
Same question again!!

Elidor. Loved it so much when I was 10 that I forgot to return to my School Library.
Same ? again.

I used to like to read series of books, so I loved The Famous Five and the Secret Sevem, Terrance Dicks' Ask Oliver series and the Willard Price Adventure stories (Diving Adventure etc).
What's your favourite book as an adult?

I'm not really well-read enough to answer that question, I just wanted to say 'OMG' (as the kidz say) at the mention for Willard Price's Adventure series. I'd absolutely forgotten all about him/them, but in Mrs Barrow's class at Primary School (what would today be called year 5) they were a regular fixture of our school library (along with Target's Doctor Who Underworld, just the one Who for some reason) and they very much 'did the rounds' with us all. Gosh, thanks Si.
And now, back to the questions. Sorry to interrupt.

Willard Price books rock
I'm going to cheat and give a Fighting Talk answer ie three answers.
If it was 'which single object classified as a book' I'd go for my Complete Sherlock Holmes stories.
If it was a DW book I'd probably go for Managra, as I seem to have re-read it more than any other DW book.
But if we're going for 'novel' I'm afraid I'm going to be very predictable, and like Christopher Lee go for The Lord of the Rings.
When it did well in that People's Poll a few years back, it really hacked me off how many 'Literary' people came out and slagged it off.
Guess what, you snobs. I don't often want to read an allegory of the bleakness of the human soul or the triumph of spirit over adversity. I usually want to read a damned good story (the Dark Crusader, by Alistair McClean would probably be a close second)
I'm not really well-read enough to answer that question
On a similar theme, which 'apparently' brilliant book have you started and then given up on as being not for you ?
(I'll cheat and answer my own question - I've tried to start Cloud Atlas at least 6 times and got no further than the first chapter)Bazinga !

Promise you won't hit me, Jon? Only I find Tolkein rubs me up the wrong way; LOTR was a very difficult read IMHO, and The Hobbit was the sort of book I'd have found to have been highly patronising even if I had read it as a child.
I'm assuming that by the People's Poll you mean the Big Read? Well I've been working my way through the list slowly over the last few years and come to the conclusion that I'm not keen on the Brontes or Jane Austen either. And I couldn't get into The Cruel Sea either. Must be the number of times people have tried drowning me in it...
Do you bother with reading any newspapers?
-
14th Apr 2014, 5:26 PM #839
No problem at all , Stuart. I have no problem with people who try it and don't like it, only with reviewers and commentators who look down their nose at it because it's only a story.
I don't read any newspapers now, except if I'm going on the train (just so I can have something to read and then dump when I reach my destination).
What's your secret magazine reading shame ? (steady, Tim )Bazinga !
-

@Jon. If you find LotR & The Hobbit a stuggle, Stuart then I highly recommend you avoid Tolkien's Silmarillion. It's quite a drawn out affair even by LotR standards.
I don't read any periodical these days secret or otherwise. Although I probably should be secret about the odd Top Gear magazine I get now and again.
What's you favourite movie/TV programme (other than Doctor Who) that you fall back on to watch when bored?

It's rather like that bit at the start of Toy Story 2 where Woody has the choice of "Shark or death by monkeys" isn't it...
Last time I voted Labour, although I knew they had no chance really, neither in our Constituency nor at National level. Certainly, 4+ years later I could never bring myself to vote for Cameron or Clegg... but neither could I ever consider voting for Milliband, who seems to have no idea either. I suspect I'd have to just ignore the fact that whoever gets in at number 10, they'll almost certainly be a complete [insert unflattering noun here]; and just vote for whoever seems most promising of the candidates in our area.
Or maybe I'll just opt for death by monkeys, at least it would be fairly quick.
Manfred Mann or The Man from UNCLE?

I'm very glad to see nobody fell into my trap there (the correct answer was of course, Man About The House). So let's try something less controversial:
Have you been watching the Horror Channel's Classic Who repeats?

Rugby's the one where they've got funny-shaped balls.
I'll ask an easier one then. Are you going anywhere on holiday this year?
