What do you want from the new companion?
Following on from Mike's thread about what you want in the next series, I would like to ask the members of Planet Skaro what they do and don't want the next companion to be?
Frankly, what I want, we probably won't get.
I'd love to have just a regular twenty-something girl who stumbles into the TARDIS by accident, and travels with the Doctor for the thrill of it. Nothing OTT about her - no falling in love with the Doctor, no story-arc about being pregnant-but-not-pregnant before having her baby stolen. Certainly, I want character development, but I'd rather have a nice, normal companion in the vein of Jo Grant or SJS.

I think she's going to be Ian and Barbara's grandaughter.
I am probably wrong about this, but there's a feeling I've got, why they aren't revealing her name... Anyway, wouldn't that be marvellous- visiting her Grandfather would be wonderful!
I've just got my handcuffs and my truncheon and that's enough.

Yeah, that would be a nice way to celebrate the 50th and get William Russell involved, and have the companion on the Golden Jubilee linked back to the very first ones. Super idea!

It'd be really touching, wouldn't it? I can envisage it all- the parents who are really worried because they don't know what their Dad got up to in his younger days, but the grandfather with a twinkle in his eye telling her to go out and travel, because he knows. What a wonderful story that would be.
Of course it won't happen, but it's a lovely thought I've been playing around with in my head for the last few weeks.

Si - that's actually a lovely idea! A little fanwanky perhaps, but if done right, it wouldn't be distracting for newer audiences, while a nice nod to us longer-term fans who are more familiar with the history of the show.
I love it!

I think Si's idea is brilliant. It could even tie in with Moffat's claim that The Doctor will meet her in the last place he'd expect - in a junkyard, as she tries to find the place where her grandfather's journey began...
(Although in the real world, 76 Totters Lane probably would have long since gone, most likely to make way for exclusive apartments.)

Aha! Kind of a "Poltergeist"- style storyline, where the Doctor meets the new companion at some strange apartment blocks in which strange things are happening, and in a Girl in the Fireplace-type time-twist, the camera pulls back at the end to reveal a slip of paper in a planning office documenting how the apartment block was built over a junkyard in Totter's Lane...
