Blimey!! Lots of exciting things to come from the sound of it.

Lovely to have a sneaky final, final farewell from Paul too after the heartbreaking final episode of The Next Universe.

But what has happened to the new Doctor and the TARDIS? I for one can't wait to find out next week!!

"Shall I put away the tape measure?" and "Oh bugger, I'm shorter" (that may not be the exactly right line, sorry) had me laughing, and "No-one to hear your last words" had me misty-eyed. As always, very exciting to meet a brand new Doctor... and on this occasion, an unexpected thrill to hear once more from the old Doctor, what a brilliant idea Si!

Looking forward to the new series, good work from Paul & Brendan... and a new theme tune, lovely!

That was lovely stuff, and the idea to have the two Doctors meet like that was a fantastic one. The 'Coming Soon' trailer sounds fascinating too, and I can't wait to hear the individual episodes.

Which reminds me, I never did get round to reviewing the final episode, but I will do soon...

I absolutely loved that! Loved the past Doctors* back ground chat & the moving in/out of minds of the Doctor/s. Very inventive.
    Oh, and that theme! FANTASTIC!!

Listening to it for the 3rd time already.

    *Sounds suspiciously like Rowan Atkinson,

Nice little piece! The Doctor usually has a companion present during regenerations to provide another POV for the listener/viewer. As he is alone this time, this little epilogue to 'The Next Universe' fills the continuity gap. And I like the new theme music.

Just listening to it now and already I can hear that Brendan will make a great Doctor! I think I may actually start listening to audios for once.

Well done to all concerned. Great job.
I’m being extremely clever up here and there’s no one to stand around looking impressed! What’s the point in having you all?

Totally irrelevant, but... Brendan's eyes gazing down from the eerie banner above have been reminding me of something, and I've just worked out what. It reminds me of Michael Wisher from the cover of one of those Bill Baggs Stranger videos, I think. Am I going completely mad, or does anybody (please, anybody!) think the same?

    Thank you for listening.

Thanks everyone for your very kind comments.

The idea for the episode itself was one of those things that came up at almost the last minute- certainly well after the rest of the season was planned. As you'll find out next week, the first proper story of the season begins with the Doctor thrown straight into the story and I felt that perhaps we needed to introduce him first... it was then that the irresistible idea of a handover story came to me.

The idea of a past Doctor meeting his new incarnation was something I'd been toying with when the idea of regenerating Paul was first mooted. As regeneration has always been a visual idea I wondered how we could do it in a different audio way and this was my idea. In the end, we went with the traditional (and rightly so- it was a celebration of Paul's era) but with this being the start of something new, I felt we could do it the other way too. I like to think it complements the end of The Next Universe and gives you a glimpse of the new Doctor before Invaders From Oxford begins next weekend.

I've just got my handcuffs and my truncheon and that's enough.

It was a delightful appetiser - a real palate-cleanser :-) And like you said, a good use of the audio medium for a regeneration crossover plot.

I enjoyed the Lord of the Rings reference - really made me laugh!

Adding a little more to my earlier comments, I thought that this was a lovely little story. It's nice to have such a "crossover" story between the two Doctors, and it was a fantastic idea that they meet briefly in their mind mid-regeneration for a "handover", with the new Doctor being filled in by the old!

Brendan is excellent as the new Doctor, giving off the impression of an exciting, eccentric new Doctor. I can't wait to hear more from him!

Finally, it's lovely to get to say another goodbye to Paul as the Doc. The Next Universe was definitely the end of an era and Paul's big farewell, but it's great to get this as a real transition story between the old and the new. I loved that we started with the Monk-era theme, and end with the Jones-era theme. That was a very nice touch!

While I've listened to Invaders from Oxford already, I'm excited to hear the rest of the season

It wouldn't have seems right to start with the new theme or end with the old. i really wanted this to fee like a transitional story and I'm pleased you liked that little touch Ant

It's a trick that I've always felt that they missed out on in the TV series - they could've easily done it with the final part of The End of Time (I imagine that by that stage, Moffat & Co had sorted out their title sequence etc.!)

I could be wrong, but I think I ad libbed that on the day of recording. I was mainly making a dig at The Endless of Time.

A few words on recording this one- despite being the first script written, it was one of the last things recorded for this season. It's certainly the last thing I've recorded for the time being, so that Paul and I could do it together. All three of us felt that it would be pointless for Paul and I to record separately, and I must say that I felt we had a good chemistry, however briefly.

My favourite reading of Paul's was "We're rather stuck with you and your words now!" There are currently no plans to do a multi-Doctor story, but it could be fun in the future, given the tension between the reserved old Doctor and the excitable new one...

    Oooh, coconut macaroons!
