    Default Something I wrote!

I haven't written a poem for years, but today I felt inspired to write this so I thought I'd share.

    My Moment

I'm suddenly blinded by the light,
before it was dark and now so bright.
    I'm growing, unwise, everything new,
so much to learn and so much to do.
I'm beautiful, strong, I can do so much,
    A laugh, a hug, a drink, a touch.
This is my moment, please let it last,
Please stop things changing so terribly fast.
I know from others, that it won't last long,
Please let these times, never be gone.
Already those younger, don't seem to get me,
But it's okay, I have friends, who'll never forget me,
I'm still shining so brightly, and wise as well,
Still lots to learn, also great stories to tell.
I'm loving the future, but in different ways,
I've earned enough to enjoy the rest of my days.

Then all too soon, when my life seemed so steady,
It came to a stop, and I just wasn't ready.
Who turned out the lights? Who closed the door?
I've loved all I've done, but I so wanted more.
To hug just once more, my one and only,
To know that together we'll never be lonely,
To get drunk once more, to have a good cry,
I was so alive, never thought that'd I'd die.

Now my light has gone, my brightness has died.
I know that you'll miss me. I saw that you cried.
Just remember, that in life you are are fleeting,
Unknown is the day that death you'll be greeting.
Burn like a comet and love with all your might,
Tell them you care. Hold them tight.

Now it's over for me and I wish I was you,
Shining and loving and so beautiful too.
I wish that I could see you once more my good friend,
I wish that my moment could come once again.

That was wonderful. I'm really not a great fan of poetry but that was very beautiful and poignant.
Maybe one day if I find the time to revive my old composition skills I might have a go at setting it to music with the author's permission of course.

What a lovely poem Si - straight from the heart :-) You have a great literary flair there - make sure you nurture it!

Very moving, Si. I may have to 'borrow' a version of it.

Tim, you're welcome to borrow or adapt any part of it as you like. Let me know if you do, as I'd be honoured to know it had been deemed worthy of use.
