Are we allowed to pick off-screen things as well as things from within the fiction? In which case, I'd like to nominate Eric Saward appearing in a documentary somewhere and accepting at least a portion of the blame for the 1980s.

21. Make the theme tune dark, electronic and mysterious again.
Yes, it's been adventurous and orchestral, but it's time to go back to the roots of the show and make the theme tune sound scary again and weird, like it did in 1963. Not for nothing was the original arrangement voted no 3 in the top 50 electronic music tracks ever produced in Mojo magazine this month. let's honour Delia Derbyshire in the 50th year.
I've just got my handcuffs and my truncheon and that's enough.

Maybe a simple one, but... a lot more episodes. With the obvious qualifier that I would always rather have quality than quantity, nevertheless it has to be said the UK struggles somehow to produce any thing like the number of episodes of serials that the US does. I'd like to have seen 13 this year, but given that we're definitely not, I'd like to see 20 episodes throughout next year, in addition to an anniversary and a Christmas special.

To mark us being halfway through this list, I would like to add the following:

I would like to see a "Trouble With Tribbles" type episode, where sneaky CGI and old footage (recoloured from the sixties) is used to enable the current TARDIS crew to revisit an old adventure. Perhaps Matt and Carol-Jane (or whatever she is called) could journey back to the Space Museum and visit William Hartnell, Chesterwick, Barbara Wright and Sticky.

Okay, it's not REALLY feasible to have a credible story that rescues a 60 year old Zoe from the Space Wheel, brings back an ageing Leela from Gallifrey, ressurects Adric and so on.
But before the Companion Chronicles, Big Finish set a wonderful prescedent for casting some of the older actresses in other roles. Anneke Wills playing Lady Louisa Pollard, for example. How about casting some of our favourite Who girls (and boys) in other roles in the 50th year, so they can appear on screen in a dignified fashion, getting their teeth into some other roles? It'd be a nice tribute. Frazer Hines could play Rory's grandad.

What I'd like, in these days of spoilers and press screenings weeks in advance and the like, are some genuine surprises. Remember when Davros turned up in Destiny? Or the Cybermen in Earthshock? Or the amazing week in 2008 between The Stolen Earth & Journey's End, when we all sort of wanted to believe that the BBC had managed to cast a new Doctor and arrange a regeneration, without ANYBODY knowing? I'd like to see at least one, but maybe more, genuine, jaw-dropping, unexpected surprises.

I suppose, to give the current team their due, they sort of pulled off a surprise last year when Amy & Rory left at the end of The God Complex... except that they were sort of back the following week, and fully back the week after that.
