Much like the faux regeneration, it seems like the only way they can give us a surprise is if it's just a fake one that gets undone the next week.

That happened in a DWM comic strip a few years ago and they based the "new" Doctor on Nick Briggs I think it was

Can't believe we haven't had this yet but... a live episode.
This is actually rather likely. It's now traditional for soaps to attempt a live episode on their birthday, and if Corrie could pull off a tram mowing into the street and everything being on fire, surely Doctor Who could be "scaled back" just enough to do it "as live"?
Bonus points if it's the one where Sylvester McCoy is brought back.

Surely they used the middle eight on a couple of the Tennant Christmas Specials...?
-
23rd Sep 2012, 9:28 AM #67
The middle eight, having been missed on Murray Gold's original version of the theme tune, was brought in from (I believe) The Christmas Invasion and used from then until (I think) Voyage of the Damned, when it was dropped after the BBC issued a request to programme-makers to reduce any time spent on end credits to 30 seconds or less.
And I suspect that's what Terry is referring to; he'd like to hear it return!
Eta: I haven't bought any of the soundtrack CDs lately (just can't afford to keep up!), so can anyone tell me if there's a version of the Matt Smith theme arrangement on one of those that includes the middle eight done in the current style?

We NEED a complete, total and thorough chronology of The Daleks, explaining where every story fits in and how they slot together. This could be achieved via a 'Trials and Tribble-ations' style insertion into the old stories. Something like that.

We still haven't completed our 50 wishes yet, have we? Several months after the last post though, it looks like we can tick a couple of these off our wish-list. Of course, we had the Doctor's face appearing in the opening sequence of the Christmas Special and William Russell will be making a cameo appearance in ‘An Adventure in Space and Time’ (if that counts). It's also pretty certain that we'll see the original console room rebuilt as well...I can't see how they could do that drama without it.
And thinking of some of the latest casting for ‘An Adventure in Space and Time’, particularly the casting of Reece Shearsmith as Pat Troughton...it now seems that we potentially have not only our first two lead actors filled, but the first two Doctors themselves. It looks like it will cover the period up to Power Of The Daleks, doesn't it? We've seen shots of the DIOE Daleks in London, so I wonder if we'll see any signs of Daleks on Vulcan? And surely the budget will stretch to some new, original, cloth Tenth Planet-Cybermen?
In fact, if they were to take things that far, why not just go the whole hog and actually remount the missing final episode of the Tenth Planet? After all, they're going to already have two Doctors on hand, a rebuilt TARDIS, presumably a rebuilt console room, and a ready-written script just ready for filming...a simple remount would suffice rather than a full-scale remake/modern makeover. And there has already been a precedent set for such a thing, with BBC4's Quatermass Experiment a while back. And (really dreaming now...) why stop there...remounts of other missing episodes would do nicely, thank you! I wouldn't have thought they would cost too much compared with the tv series proper...
