Default Brown Sauce - What The Hell Is It?

Ketchup you can sort of see that it's a tomato based relish, with sugar and salt and other stuff added. Mayonaise is like eggs and shit. Most things you can see what their "base" food/purpose is, even if they have other stuff added.

But Brown Sauce? What is it? I mean.... yes, what is it?

Does anyone know what goes into this mysterious substance? It doesn't even have a proper name. It isn't boasting to nourish you with a particular fruit, vegetable or even more devious foodstuff. It's name, in sinister fashion, can only tell you it's constituence and colour, which surely you could have worked out for yourself. So it's essentially a FOOD WITH NO NAME. Bbbbrr.

The most anyone will ever tell you is it's "malt and stuff".

But really, with a particular appeal to those that use it, what is it? And if you don't know, why are you pouring it on your chips?

    Si.

It's a fruity and spice sauce with a vinegar base originally developed as Houses of Parliament sauce, rebranded more popularly as HP sauce. This in turn brought forth my imitators with variations, Daddies. The website for HP tells me the exotic spice Tarramind is used within it.

It's my favourite sauce and I'd choose it every time over boring old ketchup. It is by far the best saubce to put on a bacon sandwich.

I've just got my handcuffs and my truncheon and that's enough.

Can't abide ketchup. Overly sweet. I do however like a small smear of Daddies on my baps. And no, that's not a Saville euphemism.

I'm sure it must be even slightly tomato-based... I mean how can you make any sauce worth it's salt without tomatoes...?

I'm not sure I've ever tried it. I just know I don't like it. Like jumping off a cliff.
