    Default Q Awards 2012

Shall we see how predictable these are? My guesses to the winners in bold!

Q Best New Act Presented By Merc
    Alabama Shakes
    Alt-J
    Django Django
    Lianne La Havas
    Frank Ocean

    Best Track

Florence + the Machine - 'Shake It Out'
    Fun - 'We Are Young'
Gotye - 'Somebody That I Used To Know'
    Plan B - 'Ill Manors'
Rizzle Kicks - 'Mama Do The Hump'

Best Album Presented By Red Stag by Jim Beam
The Black Keys - El Camino
Richard Hawley - Standing At The Sky's Edge
The Maccabees - Given To The Wild
    Paul Weller - Sonik Kicks
Bobby Womack - The Bravest Man In The Universe

    Best Live Act

    Blur
    The Cribs
    Radiohead
    Bruce Springsteen
    The Stone Roses

    Best Video
    Arctic Monkeys - 'R U Mine?'
Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - 'Everybody's On The Run'
    Keane - 'Disconnected'
    The Killers - 'Runaways'
    Nicki Minaj - 'Starships'

Best Solo Artist presented by Citroen

    Adele
    Dizzee Rascal
    Noel Gallagher
    Emeli Sandé
    Florence Welch

Best Act In The World Today
    Blur
    Coldplay
    Lady GaGa
    Muse
    The Stone Roses
We'll be in trouble if the Best Act In The World Today are a 20 year old group who only just reformed to play a handful of shows won't we?

    OK, I'll say...

    Alt-J (WhoHellHe?)
Plan B or Fun. Or basically ANYONE except Florence!!!
    The Black Keys
Brooooooce (not a fan, well, not really listened to a single album of his)
    Yeah, agree with Nikki
And I think The Stone Roses might be the shock result.

That said, I've stopped reading Q. For some time actually. I've checked my record "collection" and the last CD I bought was a Robert Wyatt best of. (Really, really good!)
When Q do their "500 Best Albums Ever!!" list specials and end of the year reviews I tend to get those. But aside from that, you could make up off the top of your head a list of made up names and I'd be none the wiser!
(But Mojo isn't much better either. And as for the NME...)

The only thing the Weller album is worthy of winning is 'Best Super Furry Animals Soundalike'...

Florence can't masquerade as a group to look cool AND win best solo female because she'd not win the other category. You can't have it both ways.

I'd love to see Alabama Shakes win Best New Artist. Fantastic band.
