I wonder what it is about Traken that has Tabby so hooked? I hope you're not going to get her a little dress like Nyssa's!

It just goes to show that no matter what the fans think, it's impossible to tell which stories are going to appeal to kids. I think most Doctor Who stories are entertaining enough to have some fans - there are very few that are absolute duds.

City of Dead which she liked because of the "scary monster".
Si Hart will be well pleased!

I meant City of Death of course! Silly me.

With Traken its the Melkur that Tabby seems to be taken with. She seems to lump it in with the Cybermen.
I think when you're 2 and bit the monsters are the most striking bit of Doctor Who. She's certainly not able to follow the story or really the dialogue.
So with 2 year olds the stories with most monsters in are the best.
William likes the title sequence and thats about it!

I agree with that statement. When Amy was small, maybe about 2 or 3, her favourite story was Time and the Rani, I got really sick of watching it, it had to be on most days. It had monsters in it, Tetraps, but to her they were Nasty Pigs, and she loved them, and so it went for many years. So, yes, it is kids perception of these stories, if they've got monsters in it, they're great stories.

It's not just 2 year olds that are fascinated by the monsters either - while doing my S14 rankings the other day, I was struck by how few childhood memories I had of Masque and Face - two monsterless stories. And I was 7 at the time.

I have to admit to being slightly curious as to why she calls it "Big Doctor Who"?

Ah its because the collection is in a big box! I would have thought that was obvious

She asked for City of Death again last night so seems to have kicked her Traken habits.

City of Death is apparently "Lion Dr Who" ???????? No we don't know why either.

Tabby obviously recognises Julian Glover from his role as Richard the Lionheart in "The Crusade"!

That'll be it! She's more of a fan than we think!

We reckon its because Scaroth looks a little bit like a lion on the cover. (Try squinting. He does if you try hard enough.)

    Isn't there a sort of lion-y face on Scarlioni's door-knocker?

Coriander used to call City of Death "The one where Doctor Who comes to our town". Very cosmopolitan is Stockton-on-Tees

My darkest days was when she got a fixation with Spearhead from Space - she was obsessed with Liz Shaw when she was 3!

Actually there is and thats the sort of thing kids pick up on. Maybe I'll try to ask her tonight.

I just happened to be rewatching the extras on 'Earthshock' again last night and in particular the point where there's a clip from Peter Grimwade's Myth Makers where he says that once you start setting out to have a happy set and everybody enjoying themselves, you've lost it creatively. It's an interesting comment in the context of John Black's interview and perhaps says something about the way Grimwade seemed to become a semi-permanent third member of the production team while Black disappeared off the radar.

Any chance of a few reviews from people then, for the PS website?

It certainly has a spirit all of its own.
