Let's do the Timelash again!
Pip's dangling on the edge of oblivion after throwing himself off after hearing the news.

I look forward to it's release......and being able to moan about any problems with an extra being missed off/a weeks' delay/rubbish sleeve/etc.
This has got to be a 'vanilla' release, hasn't it?“If my sons did not want wars, there would be none.” - Gutle Schnaper Rothschild

Surely it should have all the cancellation gubbins on it?
All spirit of freedom of choice aside, this is an extraordinary choice. I'm certain that there are a lot of folk out there that only buy stories they love or even like, and so this notoriously unpopular adventure is bound to generate low sales.

But, low sales now (ie.after 2 series of RTD-Who), is much higher than before. It'll make a healthy profit for 2|e, whatever, but not as much profit as Seeds Of Doom (say). But that said, it's the reason why it should, I think, be a vanilla release.

It's an OK release & it was bound to come out sooner or later. Better out than in as they say. I'm a bit ambivalent about this one but hopefully it will be sandwiched between two good releases.

Calm down dears, it's only a DVD release We knew it had to happen some time.
Perhaps this story can be re-evaluated. Surely it can't be worth all this vitriol. We should give peace a chancePity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

I'm quite looking forward to it! I think I've only seen it 2 or 3 times, and I still think it's infinitely better than The Twin Dilemma.

This seems such an odd choice. I don't mind it especially (although I prefer "The Twin Dilemma") but because it was one of the latter videos you sort of expect it to be one of the latter DVDs. I suppose we have to start getting out the crap ones and at least it's not "The Krotons" or something non-Fendahl from season 15.

I'm quite pleased about this one, although I don't know why particularly. I don't really think it will sell that badly - certainly, there are some fans who only pick up the DVDs of stories they like, but I suspect the majority are completist buyers. Do we know if it's a vanilla release or not? I think with a good pack of extras it could sell as well as anything else - if it's just relying on the story with a commentary, I don't know.
Either way, I think it'll be rather fun to have this one out. Maybe there's a policy to have one (alleged) stinker each year, just like there's a policy to have a Dalek story each year.

Although I'd have preferred "The Twin Dilemma" of course.

He was doing so well up to that point...
I don't mind 'Timelash' either, although I remember it was a story I chose not to watch when it was originally broadcast - I have no ida why, perhaps I just had a bad feeling about it!!! But it's a fun story, really, and I agree that it's better not to release all of the so-called 'classics' first.

The sad thing is that, like a lot of season 22, Timelash could have been really good with a bit more care and attention and thought. The book, for example, tells the story a lot better - if Herbert hadn't been so badly played, and written as a prat, and if, for example, his Scotland set hadn't been such a tiny, poky, clearly studio-bound, set, then the story would have benefitted. And, as I've often said, if the interior of the Timelash in part 2 had been a visual tour-de-force, rather than apparently cobbled together on about 2.50 and in about five minutes, then the image of our hero risking his life in that hellish void, trusting only to a bit of rope, would have been an all-time great moment.
The android's still fun, though, and so is Darrow, and Denis Carey is good, so is the Borad make up, and it has a good, old-fashioned, kill-the-Doctor, cliffhanger.
Anybody sold?

Also, I have a theory - it was the first new story to start after the hiatus announcement back in 1985, and I think as fans we all wanted it to be the best ever story, so that Michael Grade, the BBC, and the viewing public would suddenly smote their heads and realise how great a show it was. Since it clearly isn't the best ever story, I think Timelash was doomed to being an object of fan-hatred almost regardless of its actual merits or otherwise.

Of course, not all fans watched it on transmission, and aren't affected by all the 'background'... I'm one of those fans, and I think it's utter pants, simple as.
