Will Jade Goody's Career Recover?
You know, despite the warnings of Max Clifford, I very much doubted that Jade Goody would be demolished by the recent Big Brother scandal. Simply because people will still be interested in what she has to say about it all - if anything, this looked likely to make her MORE money.
But I'm starting to wonder if Max wasn't right. Her perfume has apparently all been dumped, and an appearance she recorded on this years Comic Relief has been shelved! Is it curtains for Goody?
Meanwhile Danielle has cleaned up! She's on every magazine cover at the moment, lots of them in virtual-pornographic poses (yesterdays Daily Star featured a picture of her near-naked arse with the headline "Why Teddy Should Get Behind Danielle") and a (clearly staged) "break up" and subsequent reunion (and then another breakup) with Sheringham has given her plenty to talk about. Isn't it about time we outlawed horrible publictions like "Heat"?
However, Goody. Is she finished? I'd previously thought it could never happen, but perhaps she's come full circle and Big Brother has finished, as well as started, her days in the celebrity limelight?
Si.
PS Shilpa for Eastenders! Apparently!

Jade who?

I really hope so. I know that sounds mean, but I think nearly all of her reality tv shows have shown her up to be to be a horrid person (BB3, Back To Reality (as mentioned by Simon Anstell on Never Mind The Buzzcocks the other day, which I'd forgotten about but did see at the time), and of course this years Celebrity Big Brother), and her other tv appearances just seemed to celebrate stupidity which I think is an awful thing to do as well.
"RIP Henchman No.24."

She can't complain! Her celebrated 'stupidity' has made her more than a millionairess!
Personally, i'd be happy to fade out the public eye after having made a cool few million.

I hope she disappears for good. She's one of the most awful 'celebrities' I have ever come across. She's ignorant and thick as two short planks, but has found a way to make money off that rather than trying to do anything about it. The most offensive TV program I ever heard about (I refused to watch it on principle) was the Celebrity Wife Swap episode with her and Major Charles Ingram. She was just a stupid woman who appeared on Big Brother, and he was a convicted criminal, FFS!
I'm tempted to feel sorry for her, because the guys who run Big Brother put her on the show and kept her there because they knew she was a figure of public fun, using her ignorance to generate cheap laughs and boost their ratings from a voyeuristic, vindictive viewing public who find nothing wrong with having somone's frailties and failings paraded for entertainment. But then I listen to her and find her too annoying to have sympathy for.
My hope is that this is not only the end of Jade's career as a 'celebrity' but the beginning of the end for the whole Big Brother fad, which is not a reality TV show but rather a sick and twisted psychology experiment that no real psychologist could get approved by an ethics committee.

Go Jason! You'll be deserving of a pint from me for that post in November.

I'll keep that in mind, Wayne.
Big Brother and the whole media circus around it really REALLY pisses me off. A few of the Big Brother celebrities turned out to be OK people, but Jade Goody, well, let's just say I nearly applauded Jeremy Clarkson's description of her in the first episode of the latest series of Top Gear....

It used to bug me a lot i admit, but whilst i still feel the same way about the whole BB thing underneath, i just try to ignore it more these days rather than letting it get to me. Life's too short. I do absolutely agree with you though, but i guess i'm more 'each to their own'. these days.
What did Clarkson say then?
-

During his spiel introducing the Stig, among his amazing attributes Clarkson listed that 'he was the first to realise Jade Goody IS an ignorant, pig-faced, racist waste of blood and organs'.
I don't usually like such cruel remarks, but in Jade's case....

John Woodnutt said it best: "lost, degraded creature".
Although he wasn't talking about Jade but it's a good quote.

I'm still struggling with the idea that anything Jade does can in any way be considered a 'career'.
Unless appearing in every god-forsaken gossip mag is something we should be advising our Year 11 to consider as one of their 'career' options.Bazinga !

They'll certainly earn more than if they pass all their exams, Jon.
Unless Jade accidently stabs herself to death while trying to put a shoe on, she'll carry on turning up in the media. She's tenacious, she won't let go.Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

Indeed. She's a human being. She's made some very stupid decisions and mistakes, but compared to many other unlikeable people, she's mostly harmless. The media made her a scapegoat of her, and the frenzy around the whole CBB thing was rather OTT, imo.
The amount of venom display by some people on PS surprised me.

I've got to say Pip I don't think there was any OTT comments about Jade on here at all - I for one witnessed her actions first hand - at that moment when she acted as she did it was pretty ugly and appalling. Looking at it weeks later I think it's unfair to judge comments made by PSers and indeed the general public without considering the context. Jade Goody stirred up quite a furore for good reason. It was the bullying that got me and deep down thats her character.

I called the media frenzy OTT Ralph, not the comments of PSers - and obviously that was the context of all the remarks.
Unlike Jason (or Jeremy Clarkson), I wouldn't call her "pig faced" - you can condemn her for what she does (or indeed, doesn't do), but not for what she looks like, I wouldn't say that's funny or clever.

In fairnesss to Jason, He didn't make any comments about her physical appearance in his post, bar quoting Jeremy Clarkson at my request.
And just to clarify, My support of Jason's post is more about his comments in his last two paragraphs, about the BB phenomenon as a whole, rather than any particular individuals. I agree the 'racist' thing was blown up by the press, because it's sells papers & it keeps the whole BB thing in the limelight, which in turn helps to perpetuate it's popularity with the kind of viewing public that Jason describes. And so the media driven cycle just goes on.....
FWIW, i don't think the press have any interest whatsoever in Jade Goody (or anyone) beyond how they can use her to sell papers. As was observered in the previous discussion, They just built her up when it suited them, & now then they bring her down when it suits them. And she was far from being the only guilty party in the whole sorry affair.
When it comes down to it, i don't think much of Jade Goody, but i think even less BB itself, the program makers, & the press.Last edited by Wayne; 3rd Mar 2007 at 1:29 PM.

Well yes, but he did say "I don't usually like such cruel remarks, but in Jade's case...." didn't he.

It was this comment I was referring to Pip. I would agree description of her character rather than appearance is only fair. I wasn't sure what you meant by venom as I certainly was one of those at the time who criticised her character and I stand by those comments for my part but I wouldn't call it venom.
I just wasn't sure who you were referring to on PS
I'm indifferent to Jade Goody now - she's very wealthy and has been exceptionally rewared for what she's "achieved" on the planet - She's the architect of her own image - she choose more publicity and it backfired - she considers herself one of the 50th most influential person on the planet - what an ego - give the rest of us a break Jade!Last edited by Ralph; 3rd Mar 2007 at 2:48 PM.

Well I guess venom was a bit of an OTT word, ignore me.
Getting back on-topic, I heard she went to rehab but left after five days, apparently unable to come to terms with her anger-management issues. If she builds any sort of career again, I'd hope that she could do something constructive, rather than bringing out fitness DVDs after having liposuction etc.
