Default 24,600 for Doctor Who's Burgundy Coat!

On 6 March Angels the Costumiers are auctioning a load of stuff off at Bonhams. The lots comprise over 400 costumes from TV and Film history, including Diana Riggs fur coat from "On Her Majestys Secret Service", Mel Gibson's sword and tunic from "Braveheart", Alex Guinesses Obi Wan-Kinobi cloak (expecting to fetch 60,000!) and some other old tat that you'd think they wouldn't want these sweaty individuals soiling:

There might be a few there you recognise.

Anyone fancy a bid? And isn't it strange how some cheap old costume might fetch thousands, just because it was once worn in a famous film!

I'd only bid on Wed Padbury's all in one cozzie.

Default 24,600 for Doctor Who's Burgundy Coat!

Tom Baker's Doctor Who "costume" of burgundy coat, brown tweed trousers and striped scarf (that's a mixture of costumes, isn't it?) sold for 24,6000 at auction this afternoon:

    Did Raston buy them?

Probably still slightly cheaper than The Who Shop.

    54,000 for Obi-Wan's cloak!

Impressive sum! But shouldn't the burgundy coat go with an entirely different 'get up'

Personally, I love Tom's grey coat with the black elbow patches. Whatever happend to that one? I don't think he wore it after season 15.
I must admit, just when I think I'm king, I just begin!

He never wore any of it in the series, it was a costume he wore for personal appearances. Which makes the price paid even more baffling.

Bizarre. And why did they let those models run around in the costumes the other day if they were worth 50,000!

24,000 for a coat.. it's unbelievable the kind of crazy sums of money people are prepared to pay for things..

I'm surprised that Davisons outfit didn't do better. I always thought it looked rather nice.

On an unrelated note, i've just bought myself new hat, coat, scarf and trousers.

There's quite a lot of costume in the McCoy outfit. If I was a lot shorter I might have gone for it.

I don't recall McCoy ever wearing that tank top?

    Davison's looks the most authentic.

The McCoy and Davison outfits were 'promotional outfits' and did not ever feature on screen, which i suspect had some effect on their prices.

But then, wasn't the Tom one promotional as well? That scarf was never on screen.
