'Incredible' Series 9 news thread
According to what Jenna Louise Coleman has just said on R5 Live, filming will start in September for Series 8 & she'll be in it. There'll be a 4 month break after the Anniversary Special to allow Matt Smith to film "How to make a Monster" in America.
Good news! I'm glad Matt isn't off.

Well it's a bit like calling Season 13, Season 12 part 2. After all, there was only a couple of months between them and Harry's leaving was carried over into the latter. LET'S RENUMBER THEM ALL!

Looks like the series is safe for the next 20 months at least, as the new Executive Producer's role is a fixed term post for that time:
The role is advertised as a 20 month, fixed-term contract at the Roath Lock Studios in Cardiff, and is described thus:
As Executive Producer you will be responsible to the Head of Drama, Wales, for the editorial, production and financial management of Doctor Who. The successful candidate will therefore have extensive production experience in popular and complex primetime television series and be confident in leading and inspiring a team to create their best work.
Working closely with our Lead Writer you will consistently deliver fresh, original, high quality and high profile episodes of Doctor Who to BBC One.
Job requirements include:
Experience of producing complex period dramas including effects is essential. You must have original and creative ideas for storylines and characters as well as the skills and abilities to communicate these to the team. You need experience of leading a production team; an eye for detail and be used to working with internal and external stakeholders such as co-producers. You’ll be privy to confidential and commercially sensitive information so it’s important you understand how to handle this. In addition you’ll have an awareness of our audiences and the knowledge of professionals within the industry including writers, directors, production teams and actors. This is not your normal 9-5 job, so you will need to be flexible with your time and duties and demonstrate resilience.

No news on series 8. Apart from news that when it gets filmed, Matt might have to wear a wig!

The thing about hair is that it can grow back.

Well Jenna-Louise would be a lot worse off if she shaved her head, given that much of society still expects girls and women to have long hair and it takes ages to grow long hair.

And, it seems, Matt Smith is staying...
Matt Smith has confirmed that he will be returning as the Doctor in the next series of Doctor Who.
The actor told The Sun in an interview in tomorrow’s TV Magazine: "I’m on a break for a couple of months while I’m in Detroit making How To Catch A Monster."
Smith added: "We come back and shoot the Christmas special over the summer, then we go on to the next series, which will either start filming at the end of this year or at the start of 2014."

He will be the longest serving SINCE Tom though, yes.
If you go by number of episodes/screen time rather than seasons I think Hartnell is actually the second longest serving after Tom though?

Well, Matt was at the beginning of time and the end of time recently, so he must have been the longest.

Pertwee was clearly the Doctor in 1993 ("Dimensions in Time", "Paradise of Death", "Surprise Surprise") giving him a winning 1970 - 1993 tenure.
