Was David Burton the first Eighth Doctor?
Good question!
Some theories here from the team behind Nothing At The End of The Lane: http://www.endofthelane.co.uk/burton.html
What do you think?

I reckon that every time David Burton puts down the phone to somebody from DWM or the press, there are gales of laughter in his household. If you were able to check his medical record, you'd see he'd had numerous appointments for treatment for his chronically aching sides.
Get him in the new series, I say! Even as an extra. He'll be telling us he was up for the part of the Master in series eight.Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

Somebody should (and indeed, probably already has) photoshopped him in to the season finale's last scene.

It's the best Doctor Who mystery of them all. Someone should show him Bignell's article and see what his response is.

Since it seems increasingly unlikely they ever made any Who with him, I don't think anyone played Heart and Diamond

This was always my favourite story from my years of reading DWM.

Due to living in Reigate, Paul and I used to see him driving around in that car for a fair while (I couldn't say for how long, but definitely much longer than the 48 hours he claims!), which always caused bemusement as I always presumed it was unlikely given the lack of national press coverage. It's a lovely idea, but given the complete lack of evidence, and the fact that David seems to like to 'exaggerate' stories, along with that article, I don't believe it for a second. I'd love to be wrong though!

Good Stuff. David Burton definitely had that car longer than 48 hours! It was outside his house for a good long time.
I believe he was a fibber. An opportunist who saw a way to raise his profile as an actor (and wangle himself a new car) by claiming he was Doctor Who. He probably never thought people would still be asking him about it years later.

I think that was looking to be rather obvious around 1990...
