    Default Rome: Total War

I'm becoming addicted to this game.

Is anyone a fan of the Total War series? Which is your preferred one?

Personally, I'm more a fan of Medieval: Total War, but I'm getting more and more into Rome!

I'm playing the Imperial campaign as the Brutii, and I've already taken out the Carthaginians, the Macedonians and the Thracians!

Total War has been recommended to me, but sadly I've never got into it. I tried it on a friend's computer. Although the initial battle was fun, the rest of the time was spent chasing three routing troops across the map to gain 'WIN' conditions.

    We haven't tried it again!
Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

that's why i don't really bother with doing the battles manually - i set it to do those automatically.

i just play the campaigns like one would Civilisation - and consequently, it's rather fun!

It's a possibility. I haven't played a decent resource management game since Rollercoaster Tycoon, so maybe... but I don't think I'd have the time. Is it paticularly time-intensive?

Rome is, but Medieval: Total War isn't too time-intensive.

I've always fancied having a go at it since watching Time Commander on BBC2.
And I do like the Roman era of history.

This is one of the games I've always meant to get hold of and try, but haven't managed to get round to yet.

I loved playing Age of Empires and enjoy this type of game generally. Can you put up some screenshots so we can get a better idea of what the gameplay is like, Ant?

Cheers Ant. That looks one helluva good game. I think I'll add it to my Christmas list.

I've never really played an RTS game before. Other than maybe a couple minutes of some really old game a long time ago. It doesn't seem like something that would appeal to me, but maybe I will give one a try one day. I'm not sure my PC would play anything that new anyone. It's really dated (1 Ghz Athlon that came out in 2000 with a GeForce 3 Ti 500 card.)
