Default #savetheday #hashtag or a load of old crock?

What is a hashtag, I hear you ask?

Well, let the Doctor explain all:

Yes, as part of the 50th you can't but have seen #savetheday being banded about by BBC PR all in the cause for hammering home the 50th Anniversary of our beloved show.

And you can be included - hop along to http://www.doctorwhosavetheday.com/ and hashtag away - all in the name of some sneak previews of the Day of the Doctor!

As social media savvy people, do you hashtag?
Do you talk about the #BritishSummer #ColdWinter or our favourite TV show

If so, what was the last hashtag you used and why?
Do you deride people who try to shove as may hashtags into a post as possible ?
or you have no idea what FollowFriday is all about?

    It's a marketing tool isn't it?
But really "hashtags are cool" is a little desperate.

I've just got my handcuffs and my truncheon and that's enough.

Oh I'm clearly very confused now - I thought hashtags were the giant monsters that lived in the swamp zone, in Carnival of Monsters. Dear oh dear oh dear.

    I remember when #DoctorWho could #SaveTheDay without #Hashtags.

And anyway, it seems to me that 'Save the day' refers more to keeping the day free and not doing anything else on it, rather than having a heroic victory. Put it in your diaries.

Also, with Twitter being floated on the stock exchange can the BBC get away with this? I know it's nonsense because sociul meejuh is everywhere, but aren't they technically promoting a private product?
Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

I do not Twitter, I do not use hashtags & really have no intention of doing so in the near future.

I know my links are mostly to Twitter pages, but from the SaveTheDay website you can hashtag in Google+ and Facebook.

I've noticed the BBC referencing Facebook and Twitter in recent years, so it's a trend that will continue :-(

You've made a right hash of this thread, Dave.
