Default Ultimate Doctor Who: Season 19

A new Doctor, a new TARDIS team and a new two episodes on a weeknight schedule- Season 19 was a time fo great change. Peter Davison is the new Doctor and he's ready to take on The Master, the Cybermen, the Mara and the Terrileptils this year.

But which story is your favourite?

I've just got my handcuffs and my truncheon and that's enough.

The one I'd choose to watch is Earthshock, although Castrovulva & Visitation are close behind.

My least favourite Davison season, but I think The Visitation deserves a vote.

It deserves one from me too. It's a jolly romp where the Doctor's actions result in a historical event. Also, the Terileptils are great villains and it was a shame they weren't brought back.

I wondered if you were going to vote for that one Mr Leptil

For me it's Castrovalva- two episodes on board the TARDIS, follwoed by two imaginative episodes in Castrovalva itself, all gloriously accompanied by great Paddy Kingsland music. To this day i find it a magical and charming story.

    Absolutely splendid!

Blimey I've voted for Earthshock. Despite really enjoying Kinda on a re-watching and having a real soft spot for Castrovalva, Earthshock was so great at the time.

I might re-watch it this weekend and change my opinion, of course!

It was only ever going to be Visitation for me, my favourite story of the 80's and second favourite story of all time.

Kinda - good as Earthshock is, there's the better story in Kinda.

Paul, I always thought The Visitation was your all time fave - has something surpassed it now or was I wrong?

Earthshock for me, loved it at the time and still one of my all time faves!

    I'm going for Time-Flight.

Na, not really - Castrovalva. Of course!

Although it could have been a little less studio-bound, Kinda still has that magic for me. Disturbing and enchanting. And a huge pink snake. What more do you want.

A special mention for Four To Doomsday Part 1 though. This was the first episode I recorded with our Betamax recorder. Needless to say, I nearly wore the tape out!

One thing to love about this season is that the four stories attracting votes here are all so radically different and ambitious. We've got an Escher-inspired mystery and a showdown with the Master; a surreal Buddhist allegory; a fun historical; and a space-age shoot-em-up thriller.

I'll leave you to guess which story is which, but there's such a variety on display here. Time Flight may have been a disaster but in their first couple of years at least, JNT and Saward were really allowing the writers to push the envelope and develop some exciting ideas. One of the best times to be a Doctor Who fan, surely?

    Earthshock for me.
I’m being extremely clever up here and there’s no one to stand around looking impressed! What’s the point in having you all?

One of the best things about being a fan then IMO was the lack of hyperbole from the production team and the lack of spoilers (Earthshock being the obvious example but also Tegan's shock "departure" at the end of the season).

Despite the surprising return of the Cybermen and the death of Adric, Earthshoch really only comes in around the middle for me this season, much preferring Castrovalva and The Visitation, the latter of which has always been among my favourites and gets my vote here.

I missed this one, but FWIW I'd have voted for 'Earthshock', one of my absolute favourites and the most exciting thing ever when I was 6.

By the way, I think that's the first time I've ever typed FWIW.
