Ultimate Doctor Who: Season 21
It's 1984, and Doctor Who is at one of its times of change. The season starts with the fifth Doctor, Tegan and Turlough and ends with The Sixth Doctor and Peri in the TARDIS. Along the way we re-encounter the Silurains and Sea Devils, The Daleks and the Master, battle against the Tractators and the Malus, before spctrox toxemia sees off The Doctor on Androzani Minor.
But which story is your favourite?
I've just got my handcuffs and my truncheon and that's enough.

Oh dear - Caves of Androzani is head and shoulders above the rest of this season. I do like to be a little controversial sometimes, but it's been very difficult in these season polls!
Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

Bit of an unusual choice but for me, Frontios. It's an underrated adventure and I like the sci-fi elements. I think Peter Davison liked it as well.

He certainly gave a great performance in it and it's the best characterisation of the fifth Doctor there is. It's my favourite too.

Quite literally a two-horse race at the moment. I'm saying Frontios on the grounds of over-familiarity with Caves, though I won't mind if Caves wins.

A mostly respectable season sandwiched in between two duff bookends.
I was tempted to vote for Resurrection. There's much to enjoy, but the plot is such a mess.
In the end though, it had to be Caves. Great drama.

Every fibre was screaming "Caves!! Caves!!" but then I remembered what an overlooked gem Frontios was.

I don't rate Caves all that highly, really not too keen on Frontios either, Resurrection has lots of crash bang wallop but little story.
Awakening gets my vote as its a cracking little story.

I don't really dislike any of this season, and in fact if it wasn't for the glorious Frontios, I'd gladly vote for Twin Dilemma. As it is, though, this season does contain the aforementioned-glorious Frontios, which gets my vote. But, ssh, not a word to the Time Lords!

I think Caves and Resurrection are both decent enough but over-rated stories, and aren't nearly as enjoyable as The Awakening and Frontios. Back when these two stories were originally broadcast back-to-back, I felt that this had been Davison's strongest run both story-wise & performance-wise (just dropping off slightly with Resurrection which followed them) since he took over the role. I felt he was really just hitting his stride, giving another great performance in Caves, when he left.
Anyway, Awakening gets my vote with Frontios a close second!

I'm delighted by all this Frontios love. I hope it doesn't come and go like a summer cloud.

Frontios. So glad to see it ahead of Caves.
Oooh, coconut macaroons!

As a 14 year old at the time, I agreed with DWM's Season Survey which put Resurrection top! It was the 2nd story I recorded and kept on video (after 5 Doctors). However, Caves is perhaps my favourite story of the 80s.
