    Default Sue Townsend, author of Adrian Mole books, dies aged 68


    Novelist Sue Townsend, best known as the author of the successful Adrian Mole series, has died.

    Townsend, 68, died at home on Thursday after a short illness.

    The first of her comic series, The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, aged 13 3/4, was published in 1982 and the eighth instalment, Adrian Mole: The Prostrate Years, was released in 2009.

    Her other best-selling novels included The Queen and I.

    Really sad- Adrian MOle was a great comic creation, that I appreciate more now I'm older than I did when I was a teenager. Maybe he was a bit too close to home!

    I've just got my handcuffs and my truncheon and that's enough.

    Sad news indeed. I was a big Mole fan too - I guess most teenagers growing up in the 80s were!

    That is sad news & no age really.

    I was never a 'Mole fan but I do remember it vaguely.
